MLRA Ron Jenkins Memorial comes to Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday with $7,000 awaiting feature winner

WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 30, 2022) - The final Late Model special of the season rolls into Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday night with the 8th annual Ron Jenkins Memorial headlining the action.

The $7,000-to-win, $700-to-start Lucas Oil MLRA event is the middle night of a three-race MLRA swing that begins Friday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, and concludes Sunday at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly.

The race at Lucas Oil Speedway pays tribute to Ron Jenkins, who built the original Wheatland Raceway.

Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, will be looking to continue his pursuit of the MLRA season championship. He begins the weekend with a 280-point lead over his nearest pursuer, Kolby Vandenbergh of Ashland, Illinois. Vandenbergh also is leading the MLRA Rookie of the Year standings.

While Simpson is leading the points, many eyes will be on Johnny Scott of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Scott has already won three times at Lucas Oil Speedway this season, including Night One of the MLRA Spring Nationals in April, the Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson on preliminary night before the Show-Me 100 in May and the CMH Diamond Nationals in July.

Another driver to watch will be Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon. The former MLRA champion recently picked up back-to-back MLRA feature victories in a new Capital Race Car following an extended break from competition.

In addition to the Late Model action, the Cedar Creek Beef Jerky USRA Modifieds will run for $1,000 to win and O’Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars will have a $750 feature prize. The Ozark Golf Car USRA B-Mods will battle for a special $1,000-to-win top prize Presented by the Titan B-Mod Series.
