Lucas Oil Speedway back in action this weekend with Weekly Racing Series, Off Road action

WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 17, 2021) - After a week off, Lucas Oil Speedway roars back into action on Saturday with a big doubleheader day of action, on both the dirt oval and off-road course.

Every point is vital for championship contenders in the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series, with just two events remaining. The next-to-last program is set for Saturday night with the ULMA Late Models the featured division, running for $1,000-to-win.

It will be Public Safety Appreciation Night at the Races Presented by KOLR with all police, fire and rescue personnel admitted free with ID. The Cedar Creek Beef Jerky USRA Modifieds, Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods and O’Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars also will be in action.

The featured ULMA Late Model class finds an intense points battle brewing between the last two drivers to win track championships. Reigning champion Cole Henson of Russellville is hanging on to a 14-point lead over Johnny Fennewald, whose three-year reign atop the ULMA Late Models ended a year ago as Henson broke through.

Appleton City's Fennewald has all the momentum on his side, with five straight Lucas Oil Speedway feature wins. Fennewald found himself 80 points behind only two weeks into the season, after 10th and 11th place finishes to start, but has stormed back into title contention.

The next-closest points battle is in the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods, where Kris Jackson of Lebanon leads Springfield's JC Morton by 58 points. Jackson, with six wins on the season, is in pursuit of his third straight track championship and sixth overall.

A first-time track champion will be crowned in the Cedar Creek Beef Jerky USRA Modified division, where Dillon McCowan of Urbana leads Fulton's Ryan Middaugh by 69 points and Jason Pursley of Hermitage by 73. McCowan has two victories and 12 top-five finishes to forge his lead.

The only runaway is in the O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Car class as David Hendrix of Waynesville, on the strength of an early season three-race winning streak and seven other top-five finishes, holds a 184-point margin over second-place Darren Phillips of Wheatland.

Gates for the dirt track open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05.

Off Road during the day: The Kansas City Off Road Racing Association takes to the Off Road track during the day with multiple racing divisions, including Youth, Youth 1000, Youth 570, Youth 170 Mod, Youth 170, Sportsman, Women, Mini-Stock Truck, Pro NA/Pro Turbo.

Preregistration is set for 5-10 p.m. Friday. Pit gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday with spectator gates opening at 9 a.m., registration 8-10, drivers' meeting at 9:30, practice at 10 and heat races at noon.

Frogs Jr Fan Club Pit Tour: As is a weekly tradition at Lucas Oil Speedway, young fans arriving early for the dirt track races are invited to sign up for the Frogs Jr Fan Club Pit Tour. Kids ages 5-12 can sign up on the midway, behind the main grandstands, before 5 p.m. with eight names drawn for a special pit-area tour at 5:15 with flagman Mike Striegel.
They will get to meet some of the drivers, see the cars up close and attend the drivers' meeting prior to returning to the midway. Each of the eight will receive a Frogs Jr Fan Club T-Shirt, checkered flag and a gift bag sponsored by RaceGear Unlimited to put items in they receive from the drivers.
