Price Highlights Hockett/McMillin Memorial With 13th-Place Finish in Opener

Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 24, 2019) – Robbie Price traveled to Lucas Oil Speedway last weekend for the first time ever for three nights of racing at the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.
His best run during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tripleheader was a 13th-place finish during Thursday night’s opener.
“We started off real strong and showed we could advance forward even not ideal circumstances,” he said. “It was a tough week and we gained a lot of experience, but we just couldn’t stay out of trouble.”
With a field of 70-plus drivers competing in the marquee event, Price started and finished first in a heat race, which scored him enough points to advance to the qualifiers. In the qualifier, he started fourth and passed two cars to finish second. As a result of being among the top 16 cars in passing points, Price earned the fourth starting spot in the night’s feature.
Unfortunately, Price made contact with another car and got spun around on the opening lap of the race, sending him to the rear. Following multiple cautions and two red flags, Price passed 12 cars to finish 13th.
“We were really good all night and it was unfortunate what happened,” he said. “It was really one lane and I made moves where I could. We were able to advance forward enough that the night wasn’t a complete loss.”
Night 2 featured another full night of preliminary racing action and proved disappointing for Price. He got tangled up in an accident in a heat race and was forced to scratch for the rest of the night due to damage sustained.
“I was moving forward and focused on getting into the A Main and we just got up over a wheel,” he said. “It was a tough pill to swallow. If we just get in the show Friday night, we are looking good for Night 3 and I’m feeling good about my chances. Instead we’re in a hole and needing help so it was frustrating.”
With a $10,000 payday awaiting the winner of the Saturday night finale, Price unloaded a back-up car and went to work looking to rebound from the previous night. Price placed seventh in a Last Chance Qualifier and third in a B Main to miss a transfer by only one position. He used a provisional to start at the back of the field in the main event.
With a car that he had never piloted until Saturday night, Price felt optimistic about the adjustments the team had made throughout the night. However, after jumping the cushion on Lap 2 to avoid a wreck, he ripped the oil line off the car and ended his night prematurely again. He was credited with a 23rd-place finish.
“I feel like we should’ve transferred through the B Main and we were really gaining on the car as the night went on,” he said. “I don’t know that we were going to win or anything, but we definitely could’ve made up some ground and left with a good finish and that’s disappointing.”
After a weekend filled with damaged race cars and tough luck, Price is looking forward to a well deserved week off before returning behind the wheel for the $10,041-to-win Short Track Nationals Oct. 4-5 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
“I went into Missouri with three cars put together and feeling good about the end of the season and left banged up on the track and in the pocket.” he said. “To say we need a breather is an understatement. We’ll take this time to regroup and I’m looking forward to coming back strong and focused next weekend.”
