With first prize doubled to $10,000, Street Stocks Big Buck 50 returning to Lucas Oil Speedway Oct. 4-6

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- When a talented field of 27 Big O Tires Street Stocks pulled into the Lucas Oil Speedway pits last Saturday night, it was a sure sign that one of the nation's biggest races of the year for the full-bodied cars is nearing.

The 5th annual Big Buck 50 Presented by Whitetail Trophy Hunt - with its $10,000 first-place prize double last year's payout, plus a free spot into the prestigious Whitetail Trophy Hunt valued at $3,000 - is just six weeks away. Drivers are reminded that early entry is $100 if received before Oct. 1 and $125 thereafter.

"It's exciting to watch this event, which puts the Street Stocks in the spotlight, grow so much over the last few years," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. "We want to thank our friends at Whitetail Trophy Hunt for being such a key part of helping this event take off. I know everyone is starting to gear up for it again."

That was evident last weekend when Tony Anglin of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, the defending Big Buck 50 champion, made a rare trip to Lucas Oil Speedway to tune up for the race and take on the weekly regulars. Burl Woods of Republic earned the feature win, his first of the season.

This year's feature payout will be as follows: 1st $10,000; 2nd $5,000; 3rd $2,500; 4th $1,500. 5th $1,250; 6th $1,000; 7th $900; 8th $850; 9th $800; 10th $750; 11th $700; 12th $650; 13th $600; 14th $550; 15th-through-24th $500; non-transfers $200.

The Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models will also be on the program running complete shows on Friday with $1,000 to the winner and on Saturday with $2,000 to the winner.

Action will kick off on Thursday, Oct. 4 with open practice from 6-9 p.m. and time trials for the Street Stocks. On Friday, 10-lap qualifying heats will set the first eight rows for Saturday's 50-lap main event, along with the Late Model program.

On Saturday, last-chance races will finalize the Big Buck 50 feature field with the Late Models competing in heats and features.

Two Lucas Oil Speedway provisionals will be added to the feature field based on final 2018 Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series points standings, making this Saturday's final regular-season action even more important.

For entry information drivers can go to http://www.LucasOilSpeedway.com and go to "Driver Dashboard" or call the speedway office at (417) 282-5984 for more information.

The 2018 Whitetail Trophy Hunt, in the Lake of the Ozarks area, is the 30th edition of the event and is set for Nov. 10-12 but already has sold out to the general public. It is limited to 230 participants with $15,000 in prize money going to the winner.

Tim Brown of Stoutland won the Big Buck 50 in 2016 for $5,000 plus the free hunt entry valued at $3,000. He went on to finish ninth in the Whitetail Trophy Hunt to win another $2,000.

Action at Lucas Oil Speedway resumes this Saturday with Bill Roberts Chevrolet-Buick Season Championship Night Presented by KTTS. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 and opening ceremonies at 7.
