2nd annual Off Road Shootout this weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- One of the most-anticipated weekends of the Lucas Oil Speedway season is days away as the high-flying Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series makes its return for the 2nd annual GEICO Off Road Shootout Presented by General Tire.

Action will fire up on Friday with practice sessions before full racing programs on the 1.2-mile off road course Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series will be in action on the dirt oval Saturday night and fans purchasing off road tickets will be admitted free to that event.

"Our inaugural Off Road Shootout last summer was a huge success and the anticipation for the return of the Lucas Oil Off Road Series has been running high," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. "We're excited to welcome back short-course racing to the Midwest with a bigger and better show than the first one."

In the featured pro divisions last summer, Doug Mittag and the now-retired off road legend Carl Renezeder captured Pro 4 wins at Lucas Oil Speedway with Brian Deegan and Jeremy McGrath earning Pro 2 victories.

Championship battles in the Lucas Oil Off Road Series are tight in 2018. Rob MacCachren leads R.J. Anderson by eight points in the Pro 2 division with Anderson, who does double duty, leading the Pro 4 chase by 11 points over Mittag.

Ryan Beat sits atop the Pro Lite division by five points over Christopher Polvoorde. In Pro Buggy, Michael Ward is two points ahead of Trevor Briska while Mason Prater and Bronson Chiaramonte are tied for the Mod Kart lead. Check out LucasOilOffRoad.com for more information on the series, including full points standings.

For fans unfamiliar with the Lucas Oil Speedway off road course, it has a total of nine turns including an over-under section and a 15-to-20-degree "Daytona Turn" and a massive table top where trucks fly more than 200 feet through the air. There are two large, covered grandstands for spectators to get shade from the heat.

"We had some great racing and this is a great facility," McGrath said following his win at Wheatland last summer, when he made a memorable last-to-first charge through the field. "We'll be all smiles when we get back here next year."

Fans can save on advance tickets for the GEICO Off Road Shootout by purchasing tickets online prior to the event. Off road tickets include access to the pit area, where spectators can get up close to the race vehicles and drivers.

Off Road tickets, whether for the weekend that begins with Friday's practice day or single-day tickets for Saturday's action, also include admission to the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series on the dirt oval on Saturday night. The National Wild Turkey Federation presents that program, featuring the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds in a $1,000-to-win, 25-lap main event feature.

Spectator gates will open at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday with practice starting at 8:30 a.m. followed by qualifying. A drivers' autograph session is set for 11 a.m. with Junior Kart, Mod Kart and Turbo UTV races beginning at 11:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies are at 2 p.m., followed by the Pro 2, UTV, Pro Buggy, Pro Lite and Pro 4 races.

For Friday practice, spectator gates open at noon with practice sessions at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
