Strong Three Night Outing Yields Fifth Victory Of The Season For Blake Hahn
Bryan Hulbert – ELDON, Mo. (September 4, 2019) Picking up his fifth overall victory of the 2019 season this past weekend, Blake Hahn’s three nights with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network saw just as many top-five finishes, along with the win, with events at Iowa’s 34 Raceway and Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway.
“We’ve had good momentum since Knoxville, and this weekend was really what we needed to let us know we’re going in the right direction, especially with the field of drivers we had all three nights,” stated Blake.
Hahn’s first trip to 34 Raceway on Friday, the win keeps up a trend of Blake winning at new tracks.
“I don’t know what it is, but we always seem to roll well when we roll into a track we’ve never been too and that was the case on Friday. I didn’t have another track we could use for reference, so I didn’t have any notes to go off, but I just felt comfortable and really, 34 Raceway is an awesome track. Easily the best track I’ve been too in Iowa because it is a short track and you can move around. I look forward to going back.”
Getting the lead on the start, the victory was not an easy one as Blake had to hold off Austin McCarl in lapped traffic, then Seth Bergman on the closing lap of the 30-lap affair.
“That was a tough race. I about gave it away twice in traffic, and thankfully had the track position to hold onto the lead when Austin [McCarl] dove underneath me. The cautions helped there to give me open air and let me settle down a little bit then there at the end, I could hear Seth and I just took a gamble on the slower car moving up off the turn and it worked out.”
Taking on Lake Ozark Speedway the next two nights, Hahn finished fifth in both outings.
Qualifying fourth for Saturday’s A-Feature, Hahn’s outlook was to just finish as the track was blistering fast from the track having taken a massive amount of rain the night before.
“I have to hand it to everyone at Lake Ozark Speedway, they worked their asses off to get that show in. For what they had to deal with, I have not complaints. I was just glad we stayed out of trouble and got through the race in one piece.”
Finding a much dryer track on Sunday, Hahn had to dig a little bit after his Heat and Qualifier performance landed him 11th on the grid. Up to fourth at one point, the Sage Fruit, Co. No. 52 ended up fifth after battling with John Carney II in the closing laps. Hahn was the final car on the lead lap.
“Going 40 laps with no cautions with the track as technical as it was, it made things really interesting and the lapped cars made the line deceiving because I was able to roll the bottom and get around, and then all the sudden Carney came around me in the middle. I moved up and tried running his line, but it was too late by then. Overall though, I was really happy with the car and how we did.”
Up next on Blake’s schedule is the Casey’s General Store Fall Brawl at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. with the Nebraska 360 Series on Saturday, September 7. Races begin at 6:00 P.M. (CT).
