Nienhiser Finds Victory Lane for Fourth Time in 2019
PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to flex his muscle in 2019, Paul Nienhiser had a strong three-race weekend over Memorial Day holiday as he picked up his fourth win of the season on Friday night before capturing a fourth place finish on Sunday.
“It was a pretty good weekend for our race team,” Paul Nienhiser said. “We were able to grab another win at Jacksonville on Friday night, and after struggling on Saturday at Lake Ozark, we came out Sunday with a really good car and just ran out of time I feel.”
Going out late in time trials on Friday night at Jacksonville Speedway, the Chapin, IL driver would time the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design entry in second quickest before going from fourth to second in heat race competition.
Find himself in the redraw, Nienhiser would pull the three, placing him in the second row to start the feature event. When the race went green, Nienhiser admitted that it took him a little while to get going.
Settling into third, a caution on lap five would allow Nienhiser to realize that he had a bit of a steering problem. Knowing he would have to get his elbows up, Nienhiser was up for the task and he would put all four wheels over the cushion when the green light flashed back on and raced into second, only to see another yellow flag negate his efforts.
On the ensuing restart, Nienhiser would use some gamesmanship as he dove low this time and worked into second, where he ran until the caution again flew on the 14th lap.
Making a bid for the leader on the restart, the battle would heat up as Nienhiser continued to run in second until a lap 18 restart set him up to take over the top spot. Going high, Nienhiser sailed around into the lead and never looked back as he led the rest of the way and ended up going on to win by nearly a straightway despite the steering issues.
Traveling to Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday, Nienhiser admittedly just struggled no matter what he and his crew did. Racing out of the ‘B’, Nienhiser would make a few laps in the ‘A’ before calling it quits and saving his stuff for another night.
Making radical changes during the day Sunday, Nienhiser was drastically improved when racing action commenced that evening. Going from sixth to third in his heat race, Nienhiser moved into the redraw where the seven pill put him in the fourth row to take the green flag.
Using the low side of the speedway much of the race, Nienhiser would stay inside the lead pack. As the laps clicked off, there was a gaggle of cars racing wheel-to-wheel in within striking distance to grab the win.
Battling with Jonathan Cornell late, Cornell was able to break Nienhiser’s momentum and it would end up capping the weekend with a fourth place finish.
“Sunday we threw all kinds of stuff at our car and it worked really well,” Nienhiser added. “We were close at the end, and I am curious to know how it would have played out in a few more laps. Big thanks to all of my guys for their hard work all weekend long.”
Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-12, Wins-4, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-9
