LAYNE LANDS LATE-RACE MLS VICTORY AT LAKE OZARK

ELDON, MO. (April 30, 2019) – The POWRi Lucas Oil Midwest Lightning Sprint League resumed on Friday night with their second event of the season and the first of six appearances at the beautiful Lake Ozark Speedway. A solid 14-car field came out to play in front of an enthusiastic and packed grandstands with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars also in attendance.

Split into a pair of heat races, Brad Strunk of Mason, Ohio and Bobby Layne of Kansas City, Missouri picked up the wins which set the stage for a main event full of passing and speed. As Strunk and Layne brought the feature field to the green flag it was Strunk who took the jump and stormed into the lead as Jeff Bard of Basehor, Kansas passed Layne for second.

As a three-car battle emerged for fourth, Layne maneuvered back by Bard and set his sights on Strunk for the race lead. Working the high line, Stanley Kreisel of Warsaw, Missouri presented himself as the challenger to Layne for the runner-up spot. Layne quickly disposed of Kreisel as he and Strunk began to fight for the lead while Kreisel was hosting his own battle for third with Kenny Bowers of Olathe, Kansas.

A green-white-checkered restart would send fans home with a thrilling finish as Strunk paced the field over Layne and Kreisel. Using a great restart to his advantage, Layne snuck underneath Strunk off the bottom of turn two and powered by him to assume the lead. Strunk never gave in and offered a valiant challenge on the final lap, but it just wasn’t enough, as Bobby Layne held on to score his first POWRi Lucas Oil Midwest Sprint League victory of 2019.

Rounding out the top five was Brad Strunk in second-place, Stanley Kreisel with a third-place run, Kenny Bowers with a fourth-place result, and Alex Davis with a fifth-place score. Closing out the top ten was Tyler Johnson in sixth, Jeff Bard in seventh, Chris Shofield in eighth, Tyler Murry in ninth, and Kyle Lewis in tenth.

On tap next, the POWRi Lucas Oil Midwest Lightning Sprint League will race at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri on May 3. Sharing the bill with the POWRi Lucas Oil National / West Midgets and the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League, it is sure to be a thrilling night of open wheel frenzy.
