Scott, McClelland, Davis, Chacon and Berger Score Wins on Opening Night
Tulsa, OKLA (March 26, 2017) - It was a chilly opening night for the Fast Five Weekly Racing Series, but five drivers turned up the heat and took home their first wins of the 2017 season. Robert Scott, Sean McClelland, Chad Davis, Jorge Chacon, and Leroy Berger all took home a bottle of Tidewater Winery wine after an exciting night of racing, and hard fought wins.
The 2016 Factory Stock champion Bobby Wolfe was off to a good start after winning his heat race and starting on the front row of the 20-lap feature event. Wolfe had a good lead going after a long green-flag run, until a pair of caution flags waved on laps 12 and 13, which stacked the field back up. That gave Robert Scott and Tommy Romine a chance to place their bids for the win. Scott capitalized on the restart to make the pass on Wolfe on lap 14. Scott and Wolfe battled back and forth for the next 3 laps, but Wolfe was unable to regain the lead. Dalton Garrison and Jimmy Owens motored past Romine for third and fourth, as Romine finished in 5th. Robert Scott was able to crush his 9 year win-less at Creek County Speedway.
In Champ Sprint Car racing action, Blake Hahn set his sights on the win, leading 20 of the 25 laps of the feature event, found himself stopped at the top of turn 3 while his right front wheel stopped at the bottom of turn 4. On the lap 21 Restart, Sean McClelland interited the lead, and continued on to take the checkered flag. After starting in the 7th position, Alex Decamp worked his way through traffic and managed to settle for a second place finish, while Danny Smith dropped one position to third after starting on the outside of Hahn on the front row. Brett Wilson managed to work his way up to a fourth place finish after starting 10th. David Stephenson rounded out the top five after starting third.
Chad Davis ended the night atop the Modifieds after an action packed A-Feature event. Davis started off strong on the front row, and looked to begin to pull away, but found him self stopped in turn 4 after a 2-car tango. That shuffled Davis to the back and Ho Dean took over the lead. Dean was being trailed by Justin Cartwright and made several attempts to take the lead from Dean, but was unable to complete the pass. Davis made his way back through the field and was able to challenge Dean to retake the lead by lap 16. Davis was able to make the pass on Dean to go on and win the race. Hunter Byers also challenged Dean for the 2nd position and was able to complete the pass on lap 18. Cartwright fell to fourth while Brandon Dean crossed the line in fifth after making his way forward from his 10th place starting position.
Jorge Chacon found himself in victory lane at the end of the 20-lap Dwarf Car A-Feature. Brian McClelland took to an early lead held onto it and looked to pull away when the red flag waved on lap 6 for a car taking a wild ride in turn 1. That restacked the field for a restart. That gave Chacon an opportunity to reel in McClelland. McClelland held onto his lead until lap 8 when he was challenged and overtaken by Chacon. Tanner Phillips was not far behind Chacon and was able to also pass McClelland on lap 9. Phillips had enough momentum going into lap 10 to make the pass on Chacon for the lead but Chacon quickly regained his lead on lap 11. McClelland made an attempt to retake Phillips, and was able to complete the pass. The yellow flag waved on lap 16, in which McClelland was penalized two positions for an on-track infraction. That moved Sam Champlain and Charlie Gonzalez into 2nd and third, while Phillips lost a position to Mike Howard just before the yellow came out. Chacon raced his way to the checkred flag with Champlain and Gonzalez in tow. McClelland didn't gain any positions from the restart and finished fourth while Howard scored a top five, finishing fifth.
It was the Leroy Berger show in the Mini Stock A-Feature. Berger started on the pole and drove his way to victory lane in the 20-lap main event. Jimmy Masterson started in third and found himself trailing Berger for several laps, until the 2016 Mini Stock Champion Wesley Knebel showed his nose to Masterson on lap 4 and was able to complete the pass. Justin Melton made his way to a fourth place finish after starting fifth, while Danny Beede motored his way to a fifth place finish after starting sixth on the grid.
