Kyle Cummins Wins on Historic Night at Wilmot

Princeton, Indiana’s Kyle Cummins was able to maneuver past Korey Weyant in the early laps on the co sanctioned Auto Meter Wisconsin wingLESS/ Powri Lucas Oil WAR Wildcard Sprint League feature and lead the remaining 18 laps in route to his first win with either series.

A record breaking 44 cars showed up to compete in the Co Sanctioned event at the Wilmot Raceway. Utilizing WARs format, heat races were set by random draw. The 5 heat races then determined the top 16 in passing points. Kyle Cummins would charge from 5th position to win heat 1. Heat 2 was claimed by former wingLESS champion Doug Schenck. The defending Wilmot winged 410 sprint champion Matt Vandervere was victorious in heat 3. Jimmy Sivia piloted his 91s to victory in heat 4 and Rob Caho Jr won heat 5.

After the heat races 2 B mains were ran, with the top 3 in each transferring to the feature, completing the 22 car field. B main number 1 was won by veteran sprintcar driver Dennis Spitz. Jake Kouba follows Spitz across the line and Natalie Klemko grabbed the final transfer spot. The 2nd B main was won by Jimmy Kouba. The Minnesota native was followed across by Craig Lager and 8th starting Patrick Haynes.

The 25 lap A main saw Korey Weyant take the early lead over Kyle Cummins. Cummins who powered around the top of the Wilmot Raceway was eventually able to move past Weyant who was running perfect laps around the bottom. With 18 laps in a caution bunched the field up. wingLESS series front runner Matt Vandervere had moved from 7th starting spot into 4th before the caution. On the restart he worked past 3rd place Landon Simon, but contact between the two would end Vandervere's strong run and send him to the tail. When the checkered flags waved, it was Kyle Cummins ahead of Korey Weyant. Mitch Wissmiller brought his number 1 machine home in 3rd ahead of Rob Caho Jr. Landon Simon aboard the Mt Baker Vapor entry rounded out the top 5.
