Devon Borden sails to victory at Port Royal
By Port Royal Speedway PR (Port Royal, PA) --A week after a frustrating Pennsylvania Speedweek wreck cost him the point lead at Port Royal Speedway, Devon Borden rebounded with his third triumph of the 2023 season Saturday night.
The win was Borden’s fifth of his career at the Juniata County oval and was worth $5000. It also moved him back to the top of the 2023 season point standings, where he now holds a 50-point lead over Mike Wagner.
It was a pair of 410 Sprint Car rookies lining up on the front row in Garrett Bard and Jake Karklin and it was Bard getting the early jump on the field to lead the opening lap of the A-main. Karklin, TJ Stutts, Gerard McIntyre Jr and Lucas Wolfe completed the top five.
The tough luck 2023 campaign for Logan Wagner continued after two laps were completed when the five-time defending track champion contacted Austin Bishop and spun out in front of the field on the front stretch while running seventh. He would not escape injury but would not return to the field.
Bard again led following the restart, while Borden was making his presence known. After starting eighth on the grid, Borden had already cracked the top five after two laps and moved into fourth on lap four.
12th place starter Blane Heimbach followed suit into sixth on lap four and one lap later Borden moved past Karklin for the final podium position. It only took one more circuit for Borden to dispatch Stutts for the runner-up spot and the Raymond, Washington native set his sights on the rookie up front.
With Bard running the bottom and Borden banging the boards up top, Borden quickly found the momentum needed to grab the lead and he crossed under Bard exiting turn four coming to the flagstand to lead lap seven.
Stutts got by Bard for the runner-up spot three laps later and Heimbach continued his march forward as he grabbed fourth on lap 12. Borden hit lapped traffic one lap later, but he was in another league from the field as he opened close to a five second advantage at one point.
Heimbach would grab the final podium spot on lap 14, but for himself and Stutts all they could do was hope for a miracle over the final 10 laps. Borden took it easy navigating the lappers over the final laps to coast home to victory by a margin of 3.596 seconds.
Stutts, Heimbach, Wolfe and McIntyre Jr completed the top five, while Bard, Justin Whittall, Jeff Halligan, Mike Wagner and Dyan Cisney made up the top ten. Mike Wagner earned the $500 Valley Supply Hard Charger after starting 19th on the grid, while Kassidy Kreitz earned the $1000 J&S Classics Warrior Award via a random draw of the number 15.

Bryan Berneheisel led all 25 laps of the Selinsgrove Ford Super Late Model A-mian from the pole to score his first career Port Royal Speedway victory over Trever Feathers, Rick Eckert, Gregg Satterlee and Jeff Rine. The win was worth $4000.
Berneheisel got the early jump over outside-front row starter Tim Wilson, but it was fourth-place starter Kyle Hardy on the move early as he was second after one lap.
A caution for debris halted racing after two laps complete. Feathers, who started fifth, went fourth to second on the restart and set his sights on the leader.
10th-place starter and current track point leader Eckert moved into seventh one lap later and was up to sixth by lap seven. Rine cracked the podium from his sixth starting spot on lap nine and one lap later Eckert moved inside the top five with 15 laps to go.
The final caution of the event flew for Hayes Mattern, who got into the outside guardrail in turn’s three and four while running 10th.
Bernheisel held off Feathers’ attempt on the restarts, while Eckert continued his march toward the front by grabbing fourth with 10 to go. He’d grab third one later, but neither him nor Feathers had anything for Bernheisel as he cruised home for the win.
Hardy, Jim Bernheisel, Dylan Yoder, Gary Stuhler and Nick Dickson rounded out the top ten.
The top ten cars were inverted for a special 10-lap Australian Pursuit event in honor of former track scorer Glenn Stitt following the event. Dickson remained up front for the first nine laps, but it was Stuhler making a dramatic last lap pass to earn an additional $1000.

Ryan Zook scored his first career Dack’s Trucking Limited Late Model feature victory with a late-race pass of Taylor Farlling. Shawn Shoemaker grabbed the runner-up spot over Farlling, Trent Brenneman and Lane Snook rounded out the top five.
The win was worth $1500 and springboarded Zook to the top of the track point standings for the division.
