Walker Arthur Makes Late Pass to Win Aaron's Pro Late Model Feature; David Williams, Bret Hamilton, Matt Ashworth and Ryan Hutchens Also Win

Walker Arthur (87) works the outside of Davis Lipscombe (71) with two to go for the win (Al Goulder photo)Jamaica, VA – Walker Arthur of Forest, VA put on a show on his way to picking up his first Aaron’s Pro Late Model win of the season at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Arthur would work the cushion and pass then leader Davis Lipscombe on lap 22 out of turn 4 to take the lead and go on to the victory.

Ricky Wells and Davis Lipscombe led the field to green with Lipscombe gaining control out of turn 2 to take the lead. Lipscombe pulled away to as much as a full straight lead as Wells, Arthur and Mark Parks battled for second. Arthur finally secured second from Wells on lap 11 out of turn 4. Arthur, using the cushion, began reeling in Lipscombe as the two worked through lapped traffic. On lap 20 Arthur had finally caught Lipscombe in turn 2. Lipscombe worked to keep Arthur at bay but as they exited turn 4 on lap 22 Arthur rocketed by to take the lead at the line. Arthur would go on to capture his first victory of the season.

“The track was really fast tonight and the outside was working for me; it feels great to finally get this car back in victory lane,� commented Arthur in victory lane.

Rounding out the top five were Davis Lipscombe, Mark Parks, fast qualifier Tyler Bare and Ricky Wells.

In other action David Williams of Mechanicsville, MD picked up his second Victory Lap Late Model win; Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA would score his first Budweiser Modified win of the season; Matt Ashworth would score his first Truckin Thunder Sportsman victory and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA would hold off Chris Champion for the win in Collision One Limited Stock Cars.

In the Victory Lap Late Model 30 lap feature David Williams and Bill Hubbard led the field to green with Hubbard taking advantage from the outside to take the lead out of turn 2. Hubbard would pace the field with Williams and Stephen Childress battling for second. A caution on lap 6 saw the current point leader Justin Williams hit the wall in turn 1 ending his night.

On the restart Williams and Childress battled for second while Hubbard pulled away. Williams would secure second on lap 8 and set out to catch Hubbard who had moved out to an eight car length lead. On lap 10 Williams swept outside Hubbard coming out of turn for to take the lead. A caution on lap 19 for Hubbard, who exploded a rearend , closed the field up for the final restart. On the restart Williams pulled away and went on to collect his second win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Childress, Billy Tucker, Anthony Kincaid and Joe Ender.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Bret Hamilton and Josh Harris led the field to green with Harris securing the top spot out of turn 2. Harris, Hamilton and Joey Polevoy battled for the top spot over the first 20 laps. On lap 20 Harris began showing smoke and on lap 21 Hamilton took advantage by diving under him in turn 1 to take the lead. Polevoy got by Harris in turn 1 on the following circuit but could not reel in the leader Hamilton who went on to take the win. Polevoy, Harris, William Mongold and Brent Bordeaux rounded out the top five.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 20 lap feature Matt Ashworth and Troy Doggett led the field to green with Ashworth taking the lead out of turn 2. Behind him Jeremiah Marshall, James Snead and Roger Jamerson all battled for second. The races only caution on lap 13 closed the field on Ashworth’s bumper for the restart. On the restart Ashworth pulled away and went on to take his first win of the season. Marshall, Snead, Joe Weiss and Roger Jamerson rounded out the top five.

In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature David Bowler and Chad Champion led the field to green with Stephen Childress coming from his fourth place starting position to lead the first circuit. Childress pulled away as Champion, Brian Bradley, Ryan Hutchens and James Givens all battled for second. Givens would muscle his way to second by lap 10 and set out to reel in Childress. On lap 17 Childress would break in turn 2 and collect Givens in the process, sending both to the pits. Givens would return to the rear of the field as Hutchens lead the field back to green. On the final lap Chris Champion worked to get inside Hutchens down the backstretch with Cory Bradley right on his bumper. Hutchens led the three of them out of turn four to the line and picked up his third win of the season. Chris Champion, Cory Bradley, Blair Sibley and Marty Coltrain rounded out the top 5.

The speedway will take the weekend of August 22nd off and return to racing Saturday August 29th to host Northern Neck Chevrolet / Pepsi / WIGO Night and week thirteen of the 2015 VMS Dirt Series season featuring the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Budweiser Modified, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action.

Competitor gates for Saturday August 29th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps and features are schedule for 8pm.

Admission price for adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 11 – 17 years old $6 and children 10 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $20.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
