Adams, Jamerson, Arnold and Toole crowned Champions; Maxey crowned VA Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA - Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2010 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2010 champions.

Scott Adams of Chester, VA was crowned the Victory Lap Late Model Champion and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. It was Adams first championship. Adams also received an invitation to the Rocket Chassis Race Wise Chassis School, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a driver portrait from MPH Productions and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD; Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA; Tom Cohick of Gloucester, VA; Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; Ben Bowie of Brandywine, MD; Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA; Brandon Long of Mechanicsville, MD; Tyler Bailey of Chesterfield, VA and Andy Gregg of Portsmouth, VA.

Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA was crowned the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. It was his tenth overall championship at the speedway and his ninth in the division. Jamerson also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a driver portrait from MPH Productions and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Truckin Thunder points were Michael Roop of Stafford, VA; Tony Wood of Providence Forge, VA; Shawn Otey of Aylett, VA; J.R. Guy of Mechanicsville, MD; John Kirby of Sandston, VA; Davey Pullen of New Kent, VA; Bubba Holloway Jr. of Quinton, VA; Rusty Steel of Providence Forge, VA and Tommy Upshaw of West Point, VA.

Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA was crowned the 2010 Budweiser Modified Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Arnold also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a driver portrait from MPH Productions and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. This is second consecutive Budweiser Modified Championship.

Rounding out the top ten in Budweiser Modified points were Brian Maxey of King George, VA; Josh Harris of Gloucester, VA; 2005 Champion Page Harrison of Jetersville, VA; Brandon Galloway of Gloucester, VA; Curtis Barricks of Chester, VA; Chris Arnold of Petersburg, VA; Charlie Hubbard of Chesapeake, VANeal Hudgins of Grimstead, VA and Tony Quade of Leonardtown, MD.

Ryan Toole of Richmond, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. The Championship was Toole’s first ever championship in any division. Toole received a check of $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a driver portrait from MPH Productions and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Collision One Limited Stock Car points were Wesley Givens of Highland Springs, VA; 2009 Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA; James Givens of Highland Springs, VA; Kevin Fletcher of Saluda, VA; Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; Brandon Sandridge of New Kent, VA; Lee Overstreet of Manakin Sabot, VA; Daniel Loth of Richmond, VA and Bryan Barkley of Hayes, VA.

The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in the closest battle in the five year history of the championship Budweiser Modified Champion Brian Maxey of King George, VA beat out Budweiser Modified Champion Dan Arnold and Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion Roger Jamerson to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it. It was the first time in the history of the award that someone other than a division Champion has won the award.

Special achievement award winners for the 2010 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA in Victory Lap Late Models; Bubba Holloway Jr. of Quinton, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Chris Arnold of Petersburg, VA in Budweiser Modifieds and Daniel Loth of Glen Allen, VA in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250.

The speedway has tentatively booked several special events for the 2011 season. Returning will be the World of Outlaws Late Models to sanction the $25,000 to win Commonwealth 100 on Friday and Saturday April 15 – 16th, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to sanction the $15,000 to win USA 100 on Saturday September 17th and the return of the Steel Block Bandits for the Steel Block Nationals on July 9th. The entire 2011 schedule will be released in the next several weeks.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
