Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 21, 2020) – A new track record and a Hard Charger Award highlighted last weekend for Trey Starks.

The action began on Thursday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., where Starks piloted his family owned car during the 360ci winged sprint car season finale at the high-banked oval. His quick time in qualifying was a new track record for the division.

“We had a really good night going at Skagit, setting a track record and advancing from fourth to third place in our heat race,” he said. “I rolled the No. 6 for the feature inversion so that started me in the third row for the main event.

“I was rolling really good. I was battling for the lead and got tagged from behind and spun around. That was a bummer. We went to the back with 12 laps to go and made it back to eighth. I felt like we had the fastest car. We just had a mishap and didn’t end up getting it done. We’ve had a fast car the handful of times we’ve gone there this year. That’s a good feeling with this little operation we have left.”

Starks, who was up to second when he was spun out midway through the race, rallied from the rear of the field to finish eighth.

He then joined the Gobrecht Motorsports team at Huset’s Speedway to run the two-day DeKalb/Asgrow Power Series Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series and the Midwest Power Series.

“We had a fast car both nights,” he said. “On Friday we were quick in hot laps and ended up blowing a power steering line in qualifying when we pushed out so I didn’t get the laps we needed. In the heat race we had more steering issues and I ended up dropping to fourth. We got it sorted out for the feature. We picked up a couple of cars before the track took rubber. It wasn’t a bad night, but we didn’t quite have the luck we needed.”

Starks placed 12th in the A Main.

The weekend concluded on Saturday when nearly 50 drivers tackled the event.

“We qualified quick time in our group and had a really fast car,” Starks said. “I didn’t get a good start in the heat race and got slowed up a bit racing for fourth and fell to sixth. We had to come through the B Main. We had a really fast car and put down some good lap times. We ran a quicker time in the B Main than we did on our qualifying lap. Then in the feature we started 21st and picked our way through the field. We really came alive toward the end. We were really good on restarts and in open track. The last lap was the only lap I had all race in open air and we were really, really fast. It was a really fun track with a big, gnarly curb. It was a track you had to grit your teeth and run it as hard as you could. I like racing on those types of tracks.”

That showed as Starks hustled from 21st to a fourth-place finish. It was his fifth top five of the season and earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
