Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 5, 2019) – Greg Wilson is going in a different direction this week when he tackles the 59th annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores, which is hosted by Knoxville Raceway this Wednesday through Saturday.

“I’m feeling if we can get a halfway okay pill draw and put ourselves in position I can see us making the A Main during our prelim night on Thursday,” he said. “I’d be tickled to death with that at this point. If we can get to the main event I think we’re okay. It’s about getting to that point.”

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road backed team competed two nights at the half-mile oval last weekend, first racing in 360ci winged sprint car action on Friday during the 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

Wilson tried to overcome a tough qualifying outing by advancing a trio of positions in a heat race and eight spots in the B Main, but mechanical woes sidelined him for the remainder of the event.

The team returned to the track on Sunday for the 8th annual Bell Helmets Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank. Wilson made progress during the 410ci winged sprint car show, timing in 22nd quickest in his group before finishing eighth in a heat race and 14th in a B Main.

“I feel like we made some gains and at least some progress as we’re trying to get better,” he said. “I’ve never really been good here. I’ve had some guys with experience helping me. They are saying the problem is I’ve never been in a car that doesn’t try to spin out in the middle of the corners. The corners are so long. It’s nothing like I race anywhere. By the time you’re halfway through the corners at Knoxville normally you’re going down the backstretch everywhere else. I keep freeing up and nothing is making any gains. It doesn’t feel like we’re stuck enough.

“When you race in Ohio and the places in the Midwest out our way we have to get our car really tightened up and mechanical grip built into the car. Here it is a fine line. The corners are so sweeping you have to get your car to turn and continue to turn. It’s a fine line if you get your car too stuck you can’t finish the corner. You lose so much speed. I’m sure some of it’s the way I drive. I feel like we should be good at this place, but it’s been a struggle. On the basics of the race car I think we’re close. We’re going to go the opposite direction with some things in our setup to see if that helps where we’ve struggled.”
