TKS Motorsports – Solwold Set for 360 Nationals!

Dallas, TX (July 15, 2019) – The TKS Motorsports team will be branching out into some unfamiliar territory this August, as they will be making their first attempt at the 360 Knoxville Nationals with Washington racer Jason Solwold behind the wheel. The Troy & Tammy Renfro-owned team will be looking for a strong run by Solwold in their Casey’s General Stores/Midwest Basement Systems #2KS, before full-time driver Austin McCarl hops back in the seat the following week looking to secure a spot in the main event at the 59th annual Knoxville Nationals!
The lack of cooperation from Mother Nature so far this season sent owner Troy Renfro on a hunt for a 360. “I’ve never run the 360 Nationals before, because I don’t have my own motor,” said Renfro. “We like to stay focused on our 410 program, but with all of the rainouts we’ve had this year, I was trying to find a way to get some more nights on the track.”
Renfro’s search for a 360 motor would lead him to longtime friend Mike Anderson, owner of the #18 that Solwold regularly competes in and is the current point leader with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series in the Pacific Northwest. “I’d been searching around for a motor with no luck and when I asked Mike if we could borrow a motor for the weekend, he pitched the idea of supplying the driver [Solwold] as well,” said Troy. “So not only will we be borrowing a great Al Parker 360 motor for the week, but a great driver too.”
While it will be the duo’s first time racing together at the 360 Knoxville Nationals, Jason and Troy have plenty of experience working together. “Troy usually comes out and helps us out in the Fall on the west coast at Trophy Cup,” said Solwold. “It’s always been enjoyable getting to race with Troy and I know that I’ll be in great equipment!”
For Solwold, it will be his first trip back to race at the Knoxville Raceway in three years and he’s excited for the opportunity to chase qualifying for the Nationals in both a 360 and 410 this year. “I haven’t been out to race at Knoxville since 2016, so it definitely helps to be running for Troy the first weekend,” said Jason. “It takes a lot of pressure off me, because he’s great at setting up the car and I can just race. It also saves a couple of nights of wear and tear on our #18 that we’ll be running the following week.”
Both Troy and Jason expressed their enthusiasm about having a chance to race with each other earlier in the season than they’ve been accustomed. “We always have a great time racing with each other and it’s nice to get to do so this early in the year,” said Jason.
“I always enjoy racing with Jason and it should be a great weekend!” said Troy.
The TKS team is excited to have Jason Solwold in the seat for the 360 Knoxville Nationals, but there’s plenty of racing before then. Austin McCarl is locked in a tight battle at the top of the 410 point standings at Knoxville and looking to improve! “It feels good to have things lined up for the weeks of Nationals, but we’re going to stay focused on the task at hand and hopefully be going into the month of August with a ton of momentum,” said Renfro.
