CDR: Learning and Adapting for What Lies Ahead

The month of August sprung into action on Saturday for Craig Dollansky and TKS Motorsports as they competed at Knoxville Raceway and continued preparations for the quickly approaching Knoxville Nationals in just two weeks.

The race program got underway with qualifying where a disappointing run left the Des Moines Industrial Products (DMIP) entry with the 22nd fastest lap around the historic ½-mile. Down but not out, the team regrouped for the heat race where ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ got his elbows up starting outside row four and powering up to 5th.

“I was on the wrong part of the track in qualifying and put us in a hole,” commented Dollansky. “We had a tough heat race but were able to transfer and focus on the feature.”

Mired deep in the pack outside row ten for the A-Main, the Casey’s General Stores Maxim gained a few spots before a yellow just after the halfway point on lap 13. A great ensuing restart saw Dollansky motor past a trio of competitors before the field strung out and the Aggressive Hydraulics #2KS finished 13th in the twenty lap main event.

“The track was as good as it’s been all year and I thought they did a great job with it,” commented team owner Troy Renfro. “We have been trying different things each week with the car to get ready for the Nationals, since we aren’t racing for points it gives us that opportunity to experiment. In the heat we went back to what has worked but we have been struggling early in the feature with the car so we focused on that as well.”
