Mark Dobmeier - Frustrating Week in Knoxville

Mark Dobmeier – Frustrating Week in Knoxville

Lunstra Motorsports and Mark Dobmeier PR

August 9, 2013 – Mark Dobmeier and the Lunstra Motorsports team have shown the speed all week long at the Knoxville Raceway, but are struggling to show the results. The week started off during the Arnold Motor Supply 360 Nationals Prelim with a blown motor running in the top five during the feature and has gone from there. The team currently sits 25th overall in the points for the 53rd Annual FVP Knoxville Nationals and will start tenth Saturday night in the ‘B’ Main.

The 410 Nationals kicked off last night for the Senske and Son #13 by qualifying 21st out of the 53 cars signed in. “Dynamite” locked into the evening’s feature after going fourth to second in his heat race. Mark would line up 12th on the starting grid and crossed the checkers in 14th. It was not the finish the team was looking for, but it does lock them into a decent starting spot for Saturday night’s ‘B’ Main.

“We were really good in the heat, but come feature time we just struggled to keep our momentum going,” Dobmeier said. “There were so many good cars and drivers in the feature every little mistake would hurt us. But it could be a lot worse as we are starting tenth Saturday night for the ‘B’. We’re gonna give her hell for those 22 laps to try and get this car locked in for the 50-lapper.”

The week opened up last Thursday August 2 with the 360 Nationals. Thanks to getting a motor from the Grinch Motorsports team, Dobmeier was able to start his night off by turning the eighth quickest lap of the night. A charge from fifth to third in the heat race locked him into a fourth starting spot for the night’s 20 lap feature. While running solidly in the top five the motor let going resulting in a DNF and putting him into the ‘B’ Main the following evening.

The Big Trucks by Jimco Eagle quickly moved into the final transfer position to the ‘A’, but was passed late by Randy Hannagan to left one spot short for the finale.

“First of all I have to thank Ryan from the Grinch Motorsports team and hope he starts feeling better,” Dobmeier said. “The car was so good on the high side and we moved up to that final spot until Randy went by us on the bottom. The car was fast all week when it was on the track and it is disappointing coming up one spot short for the feature.”

The team couldn’t hang their heads low as they had to turn around and get the 410 motor ready for following evening’s Capitani Classic on August 4. An amazing car count of 81 410’s signed in to get one final crack at the track for the Nationals. After blowing out smoke in hot laps, Dobmeier timed in with the 13th quickest lap of the night. Bad luck came in the heat with a broken shock after smacking the wall and put him into one of the night’s twin ‘B’ features. Then more bad luck came when a flat right rear developed in the ‘B’ resulting in a DNF and the loss of a ton of points.

“Bad luck is how you can sum up the night,” Dobmeier stated. “Not the night we were looking to have with it being the second to last point’s night. I feel bad for my guys with all the hard work they’ve been putting in and then lady luck isn’t on your side.

“We’ll be ready to go come Saturday night,” he said about that night’s ‘B’ Main. “There are a lot of good cars ahead of us, but I know this car can get to the front to get us locked in for the finale. It should be a really exciting feature and hope the fans get to enjoy it.”

The Sioux Falls Ford #13 will also ready to go Sunday night at Huset’s for another tilt with the All Star Circuit of Champions for a $5,000 to win feature.
