Andrew Kosiski Conquers Maquoketa
By Anthony Ainslie (Maquoketa, IA) -- Andrew Kosiski ended a two-year drought as he took top honors in Saturday’s Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models East Series race at Maquoketa Speedway.
It was more bullring action for the East Series as the tour headed to the Jackson County Fairgrounds and the Maquoketa Speedway for round 6 of the 2023 season. A strong field of 30 cars from Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and

Wisconsin filled the pits around the high-banked quarter-mile oval.
The night’s top qualifier was Andrew Kosiski when he turned in a 14.288 second lap. Sixteen-year-old Gavin Tarras was the first heat race winner of the night. The second heat was taken by another young gun, 20-year-old Jaden Freyer. Jeff “Bone” Larson and Matt Ryan won heats 3 and 4.
After C J Horn and Curt Schroeder took victory in the B-features, 22 cars took center stage for the 30-lap main event. The race began with Luke Goedert and Andrew Kosiski swapping the lead back and forth in the first three circuits. Kosiski ultimately took the lead on lap four and would stay there for the remainder of the race.
The only incident of the race came at the halfway mark when Jay Johnson got sideways in turn four and collected Matt Ryan. The contact from Ryan was enough to send Johnson’s car up and over on its roof, which brought out the red flag. Fortunately, Johnson was not injured.
After racing resumed, it was Kosiski who nailed his marks and kept enough distance and lapped cars between himself and second-place Goedert. Kosiski would go on to take home the win and the $3,000 that went with it. It was the first East Series win for the La Vista, Nebraska native and his fourth win all time. The win marked his first win since 2021.
Luke Goedert finished second which was his best finish of the year so far. Justin Kay took third while Jeff “Bone” Larson came in fourth, and Charlie McKenna rounded out the top five.
One more stop remains on the Memorial Day weekend for the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series. The tour will make its return to the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa. After that, the East Series makes its annual stop to the C J Speedway in Columbus Junction, Iowa.
