Jeff Herzog and Jason Crump win makeup features from Pepsi Nationals at I-55 Raceway!

Pevely, MO (October 2nd, 2010) Before the 9th Annual Bud Pohle Memorial kicked off, the Sportsman and Pro 4 Stocks had some unfinished business as they had to complete the events from back on September 18th when their features for the Pepsi Nationals were rained out. The UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event would find 2010 I-55 Raceway Track Champion and 2010 UMP DIRTcar National Champion Jeff Herzog picking up yet another win. Herzog started back in the tenth position and worked his way through the field and past leader Jimmy Cummins to take the win. Cummins would take the second spot with Troy Medley finishing third. Ryan Eilers would finish fourth while Gary Haynes rounded out the top five. The feature event would be marred by a horrific accident when Kent Nations would spin into the outside wall after contact with Troy Naeger. Nations machine came to a stop facing the wrong direction on the high side just at the entrance of turn one. With the sun glaring into the drivers face as they came down the front stretch making it hard to see, Nations would get hit head on by Kyle Stolzer and Ryan Gegg at nearly full speed. The massive impact scattered parts and pieces all over the turn one area. Stolzer and Nations were both shaken up briefly, but both walked away from the event. Gegg would drive his machine back to the pit area. Jason Crump, who moved up to the Late Model division this season after many years of running in the Pro 4 Stock class, made a brief return to his old car and picked things up right where he left off in 2009 as he took the win. Crump shot from his fifth place starting spot and had the lead by lap two and held off the challenges of Rob Shaw to take the win. Shaw would take second while Jeff Turner took third. Mike McGinnitey would get fourth and Dayton Racer rounded out the top five.
