July 2, 2005 Results

Pevely, MO (July 2, 2005) Randy Korte of Highland, IL put on a dominating performance as he claimed the $10,000 first place prize by winning the UMP Summer Nationals at I-55 Raceway. Korte set fast time during qualifying and then won the dash to earn the pole position for the main event. Korte took the lead at the drop of the green flag and set the pace for all forty laps. Rodney Melvin challenged Korte for the lead early but had his hands full with Shannon Babb for most of the event. Babb, who started in the sixth position, quickly moved into the third spot but couldn't find his way past Melvin and rode to a third place finish behind Korte and Melvin. Jeep VanWormer took the fourth spot with Brian Birkhofer finishing fifth. Bobby Bittle of Belleville, IL roared to victory in the UMP Modified division. Bittle battled with St. Louis, MO's Ray Walsh for the first half of the event before Bittle pulled away in lapped traffic to earn the win. Bittle found the fast line to be right down the middle of the track while Walsh used the very top line around the track. Jerry Grither came home in the third position with Brian Wolfmeier finishing fourth and Tom Ratajczyk fifth. Scott Weber took the sixth spot and starting twenty-third as he debut his brand new racecar. Troy Naeger drove his Dodge Charger to victory in the AARA Sportsman division. Naeger fought off the challenges of Jeff LeBaube in the closing laps as he went on to victory. Doug Kim took the third position with Troy Medley taking fourth and Jim Smith fifth. Dustin Korte was awarded the AARA Pro 4 Stock victory after the original winner Conrad Miner was disqualified when he refused to sell his car during a post race "CLAIM" as the class rules specify. Chris Fisher was second and Brad Almost came home third. Andrew Nausley took a wild ride early on in the event as he flipped several times down the front straight away after contact with another car. Nausley was uninjured in the incident.
