June 23, 2001 Results

PEVELY, MO (June 23, 2001) In the UMP Late Model Division, Kevin Gundaker jumped out to the early lead from the pole position, but his night came to an end on lap four when he experienced mechanical problems. That handed the lead over to Mark Gansmann who led the next eleven laps. Tim Ratajczyk worked his way through heavy traffic from his eleventh place starting position and wrestled the lead away from Gansmann on the sixteenth circuit and went on to take the win. It was Ratajczyk?s second win this season at I-55 Raceway. Gansmann took second and point leader Mark Oller came home third. Jason Frankel recovered from his spin on lap three and came back to finish fourth. Sixty-three year old Don Klein had his best showing of the season and finished fifth. Billy Faust, Frankel and Gansmann won the heat races and Gundaker won the dash. On June 30th, the UMP Summer Nationals are at I-55 Raceway and the late model winner will take home $10,000. Jim Shereck and Rusty Griffaw started on the front row of the UMP Modified feature and battled side-by-side all twenty laps in the main event. Griffaw just beat Shereck across the line to pick up his first win of the season. Jerry Grither had his best outing of this season and finished third. Point?s leader Scott Weber came all the way from the twentieth starting position to finish fourth. Brian Wolfmeier was fifth. Dennis Richards, Shereck, Rich Whaley and Griffaw won the heat races and Shereck also won the dash. Troy Naeger drove to his third AARA Sportsman feature win. Naeger held off point?s leader Paul Belken. Naeger and Belken are the only two drivers with victories in the Sportsman division this season at I-55 Raceway. Brian Worley finished third. Dave Jenkins and Mark Blanke rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Belken, Scott Stuppy, Naeger and Jenkins. Belken also won the dash.
