Mullins Wins USRA Modified Feature

MULLENS WINS WIRE TO WIRE IN 2020 HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY USRA MODIFIED DEBUT.

Sunday night action at Humboldt Speedway saw the 2020 debut of the USRA “A” Mods at Humboldt Speedway. This class now appears on special occasions, this particular event being extra special because it served as the prelude to this coming Friday’s main event; The USMTS Modified Touring Series at The Hummer. USMTS is a traveling series that boasts Modified racers from all over the United States and Canada.

In Sunday’s race, a sampling of USMTS drivers were in attendance as well as local Modified pilots eager to test their skills against the touring drivers.

Dominating the feature action was third generation Wichita Ks. Racer Tanner Mullens. After winning his heat , Mullens started on the inside pole position of the feature, and virtually drove off from the rest of the field for a wire to wire win. Fayetteville, Ar. driver Tyler Wolff was runner up, USMTS regular and one time King of America Rodney Sanders of Happy Tx. took third, Chanute Ks. driver Paden Phillips finished fourth, and Jared Russell of Wagoner, Ok. Tallied fifth in the twelve car field. These drivers and many more will be in competition at Humboldt Speedway this Friday night.

Fort Scott Ks. driver Andy Bryant, a veteran of The Hummer, was flawless in winning the Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mod feature. Runner up in the event was Clint Johnson of Neosho Mo., Jeremy Chambers of Baldwin City, Ks. scored third. Tyler Kidwell of Chanute and Muskogee Ok. Driver Dalton Ragsdale completed the top five of the 21 car feature field.

Matthew Kay dominated the 8 car field of the Whitworth Construction Street Stock event. Kay, of Chanute, held off a late race charge from runner up Dalton Garrison from Collinsville Ok. Friday’s feature winner, Cleveland Mo.’s Devin Irvin was third, Chris Kircher from Drexel Mo. was fourth, Iola, Ks driver Brandon Weide was fifth.

17 cars started the Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Modified event. At the checkered, it was Rob Muilenburg of Sparta Mo. taking home the trophy. Fort Scott driver Trever Vann was second, Justin Pearish, Norman Mackley, and Humboldt driver Jackson McGowen completed the top five.

O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compact action once again showcased the talent ,Devin Schmidt of Nortonville Ks. who, after Friday night’s feature win, is undefeated at Humboldt in 2020. Barry Luthi of Topeka took second in the 11 car field. Brandon Vink, Allen Jesseph, and Terry “TJ” McDonald filled out the top five.

Action resumes Friday night at 7:00 pm at Humboldt Speedway. In addition to USMTS Modifieds and USRA Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mods, both to be televised on MAV TV, Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Mods, Factory Stocks and Sport Compacts will also compete.
