26 Promotions – Lake Havasu City, AZ – (March 15, 2018) – Dylan Cappello kicked off his 2018 Lucas Oil Modified Series campaign this past weekend with a trip to Havasu 95 Speedway for the Racing Plus 100 presented by LucasOilRacing.TV.

The season officially got underway on Friday night with three hours of practice from Lake Havasu City.

“Practice went well for us, we ended each practice session in the top five and worked on long-run speed all night,” explained Cappello. “We battled a car that was loose on entry all night and went back to the drawing board Friday night in order to find a solution. We came up with some adjustments that we believed would assist the car on entry without losing drive off the corner. Practice on Saturday was shortened due to rain, but we were able to try a few adjustments before practice was called off.”

Racing activity was halted on Saturday due to rain at the quarter-mile oval, pushing qualifying and the feature to Sunday afternoon.

“Sunday was a fast-paced schedule that only allowed for five laps of practice before qualifying. In those five laps we were able to scuff our race set and do a mock qualifying run that put us second on the board,” he said. “The qualifying format was a bit different this time around, five cars for five laps. Our second lap was good enough to place us just inside the top five.”

Starting on the outside of the second row, Cappello knew he needed to quickly get to the bottom of the race track and preserve his tires for late in the race.

“After settling into fourth for the first 40-laps, lapped cars began to come into play,” said Cappello. “Restarts on lap 43 and 70 placed six lapped cars between the leader and the rest of the field. Choosing the inside lane for both restarts proved to be the wrong choice, losing six spots altogether on restarts.”

Cappello fell back to tenth with 15-laps remaining, a spot he was unable to battle back from.

“We were unable to rebound on a slick track with a loose-handling race car,” he said. “A tenth-place finish isn’t the worst that we’ve come out of Havasu 95 Speedway with and we will keep our heads high going into Tucson.”

The Lucas Oil Modified Series presented by MAVTV resumes on April 14th at Tucson Speedway.

Dylan Cappello would like to thank Geico, Quick Response Doors, Spray Nine, Driven Motorsports, Team RBK, Pro Power Racing Engines, Total Power Batteries, Roger Seymour Photography, and Bilstein Shocks for their support.
