Greenbush Race Park

GRP checkers for Greseth, Wahl and Johnson

Another great night for racing at the Greenbush Race Park with the Rick Johnson Memorial race for the Streets.

The Wissota Street feature would send 11 cars to take the green with outside polesitter Jeremy Gust being the early leader. Jerome Berger pushed Gust for the early part of the race before he was passed by Cole Greseth. Greseth chased Gust and got beside him a couple of times but Gust was able to maintain his lead. But when the pair came up on lapped traffic Gust decided to go low and so did the lapped traffic, Greseth went high out of corner four to take the lead with six to go and went on to get the win. Gust would finish second and win his heat and Berger was third. Josh Barker was the other heat winner.

The Wissota Midwest Modifieds were lead to the green by Ronnie Novacek and Alex Johnson, and when the green dropped Johnson was gone. Johnson had a half lap lead over everyone until the only caution of the race came with eight to go. Johnson got a good jump on the restart and so did Justin Olson and Aaron Blacklance as they both got by Novacek. But there was no catching Johnson as he went on to get his first win of the year and a sweep of the night. Olson finished second and Blacklance third.

The only caution for the Wissota Modified feature came just one lap in. Mike Tiani lead the field for the restart but it would be Aaron Holtan taking the lead coming out of corner four for the lap two lead. Holtan was cruising along with Dustin Wahl trying to run him down. Wahl got to within a couple of car lengths late in the race when the pair came up on lapped traffic. Holtan decided to go low and had some contact with a lapped car and Wahl stayed high to take the lead and pick up his second win of the year. Holtan would finish second and Jordan Duray would finish third and win the lone heat.

Up next, the Greenbush Race Park wraps up it's 2023 racing season with our annual Labor Day weekend doubleheader with racing on Saturday and Sunday. Racing those nights will be the Wissota classes of the NLRA Late Models along with the Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Mod 4's, and Hornets along with the MinnKota Lightning Sprints and 4 Cylinders. Pit gates will open at 3:30, grandstands at 4:30. Cutoff for the draw is at 5pm with the racing getting under way at 6pm BOTH NIGHTS.
