Greenbush Race Park
Schill, Gust and Imrie find victory lane at GRP
A cloudy and cool day turned into a beautiful night for racing as the Greenbush Race Park hosted the MinnKota POWERi Lighting Sprint Nationals.
The Wissota Midwest Modified feature would send 14 cars to take the green and two early cautions was the only thing that slowed down Lance Schill. Schill was never challenged for the lead as he lead from green to checkered for his first win of the year and a sweep of the night. Gary James Nelson finished second and Justin Olson third. Paul Veert picked up the other heat win.
The 12 car Wissota Street feature ran 15 laps caution free and it was Terry Blacklance leading the way the first half of the race. Chase Boen got by Blacklance coming out of four with seven to go, and just three laps later, coming from his eighth place starting spot, Jeremy Gust got by Boen out of corner two as Gust went back-to-back for his second win of the year and a sweep of the night. Boen finished second and John Halvorson third. Blacklance picked up the other heat win.
The Wissota Modified feature sent 11 cars to take the green. A couple early cautions was the only thing that slowed this feature as Jordan Duray lead the way early. Just past the halfway point, Duray bobbled in corner four and Ward Imrie was right there to capitalize on Duray's mistake. Imrie went unchallenged over the last nine laps for the win and the sweep. Duray finished second and Aaron Blacklance was third. Nick Jacobson picked up the other heat win.
The MinnKota POWERi Lightning Sprints invaded the Park on night three of a four-night swing. Thirty-five drivers from Quebec to California signed in and were ready to race. Twenty-four cars took to the track for a 40-lap feature that would have a competition yellow at lap 15. Alex Therrien was out in front as two cautions kept everyone close. Therrien was able to hold everyone off to the competition yellow. After the mandatory pit stop, the battle for the lead became more intense. Grant Sexton passed Therrien out of corner four with 26 to go. Eight laps later Therrien got by Sexton in the same spot he was passed. Dexter Dvergsten made his run at the top spot coming out of four with 10 to go, but when they exited corner two, Therrien was back in front. The final caution came with six to go, but Therrien got a good jump on the restart on his way to pick up the checkers. Sexton finished second and Dvergsten third. Grant Sexton and Eric Sunborg won the B mains and heat wins went to Dylan Langevin, Therrien, Alan Truscinski and Andrew Kiedrowski.
Up next at the Park will be just a regular night of racing featuring the Wissota Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks along with the MinnKota POWERi Lightning Sprints. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:30. Cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with racing getting under way at 7pm sharp.
