Greenbush Race Park

GRP checkers to Berg, Ramsrud and Peterson

It was a perfect night for racing as the Greenbush Race Park hosted the NLRA Late Models.

Dustin Strand and Mike Balcaen would lead the 23-car field of NLRA Wissota Late Models to the green flag, with Strand jumping out to the early lead. The only caution of the race came on lap six as Ryan Keraluk spun in turn four and it also collected Strand. Strand went to the tire change area but would have to start at the rear of the field. This would hand the lead to Balcaen. Balcaen had about a half straightaway lead of second place Tyler Peterson. Lapped traffic is where Peterson was able to catch Balcaen and with seven to go Peterson passed Balcaen coming out of corner two for the lead and went on to get the win. Balcaen finished second and Brad Seng third. Heat race wins went to Brody Troftgruben, Joey Pederson, and Strand. In the heat race, Tyler Peterson would break the track record set by Mike Balcaen back in 2018. New track record is now 12.654.

The Wissota Modifieds would send 14 cars to take the green for their feature. Ryan Johnson would lead the first two laps, but Aaron Holtan would lead starting on lap three as he passed Johnson for the lead coming out of corner four. Holtan tried to distance himself from the field, but Tyler Peterson and Ward Imrie weren't going to let that happen. Through the mid to later stages of the race the trio were never more that a car length apart. Peterson finally got around Holtan coming our of corner four with five to go, bringing Imrie with him. Peterson held off Imrie for the win and sweep of the night, Imrie finished second and Holtan third. Dustin Wahl picked up the other heat win.

The Wissota Streets lined up 13 cars for their feature including two drivers in the top five in national points. Tough luck for Rachel McNamee as she tangled with a couple of cars in corner two on lap two and going upside down. She was okay, but the car will need some work. James Meagher would lead the restart but lost the lead to Weston Ramsrud out of corner four with 10 to go. Two cautions with eight to go bunched the field up and when the green dropped some contact between Tucker Pederson and Jerome Berger in corner one dropped the pair a couple of spots from second and third. Pederson recovered quickly and was in hot pursuit of Ramsrud, but time ran out as Ramsrud picked up his first win of the year, Pederson was second and won his heat and John Halvorson was third. Meagher picked up the other heat win.

A couple of early cautions bunched up the Wissota Pure Stock feature but then they reeled of 13 caution free laps. Dusty Caspers was the leader with Jake Smith and Josh Berg a close second and third. Good racing between these three, and with about three to go Smith would pass Caspers coming out of corner four for the lead, but when they exited corner two it would be Berg making the pass for the lead. Berg went on to pick up win number three on the year with Smith finishing second and Caspers third. Caspers and Deryk Weleski picked up the heat wins.

Gordon Hunter led the first lap of the 4 Cylinder feature, but Justin Honer led the last 11 to pick up his first ever feature win holding off Kalin Honer and Johah Espe. Kalin Honer got the lone heat win.

Up next at the Park, just a regular night of racing featuring the Wissota Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Mods, Pure Stocks and Mod 4's along with the 4 Cylinders. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:30. Cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with racing getting under way at 7pm sharp.
