Greenbush Race Park
Berger, Olson, Greseth and Caspers take Wissota Checkers at GRP
A much cooler and breezy day was on tap as the Greenbush Race Park hosted the NLRA Wissota Late Models for the second time in three weeks.
Once again, the NLRA Wissota Late Models had a good turnout with 19 cars ready to take the green. Mike Greseth and Brad Send would share the front row, as Seng lead the first lap. When they came out of corner two it would be Greseth out in front. Greseth and Seng ran first and second for most of the race with Dustin Strand running third. Seng would have to deal with Strand the second half of the race as Strand made several attempts to take over the number two spot, but Seng was able to hold him off until late in the race when Strand finally made the pass for the number two spot. Greseth picked up the win and sweep of the night, Strand finished second and Seng third. Brody Troftgruben and John Seng picked up the other heat wins.
Weston Ramsrud sat on the pole for the 11 car Wissota Street feature and was the early leader. Ramsrud lead the first six laps until Jerome Berger made the pass for the lead coming out of corner two, Jeremy Gust also got past Ramsrud to run second. Over the last half of the race, Gust made several attempts to pass Berger as the pair ran side by side on the backstretch several times but Berger was able to hold Gust off at the flag stand. Berger went on to pick up his first checkers of the year as Gust finished second and won his heat and John Halvorson finished third. Ramsrud picked up the other heat win.
The Wissota Midwest Modified feature lined up 15 strong for their feature with Cory Peterson and Alex Johnson sharing the front row. It would be Alex Johnson out in front early, Johnson lost the lead to Justin Olson coming out of corner four. Four cautions over the last half of the race kept everyone close, and on the restart of one of those cautions, Aaron Blacklance passed about three cars in corner two to run second. When the checkers flew Olson was able to hold off Blacklance to get his second win in three weeks and a sweep of the night. Blacklance finished second and won his heat and Taylor Jacobson was third. Johnson picked up the other heat win.
The eight car Wissota Pure Stock feature was led to the green by polesitter Dusty Caspers. Caspers was out to the early lead and for most of this race Josh Berg chased Caspers. The pair were never more than a couple of car lengths apart running nose to tail for several laps. In the end Caspers would pick up his first win of the year and a sweep of the night. Berg finished second and Jake Smith was third.
The 10 car 4 Cylinder feature had two cautions before getting in a full lap, on the third try they ran 15 laps caution free. Shannon George led the final 10 laps picking up his second win of the year. Kalin Honer was second and Justin Honer was third. Heat wins went to Waylon Current and Justin Honer.
There is NO RACING at the Race Park on June 17th. We will return to racing on the 24th as the Rebel Midwest Modified tour comes to town. Joining the Midwest Mods will be the Modifieds, Pure Stocks, MinnKota Lightning Sprints, and the Wissota Hornets.
