Greenbush Race Park

Johnson, Pederson and Strand collect GRP checkers

A cooler than normal evening greeted racers and fans to the Greenbush Race Park, as the Park hosted the NLRA Wissota Late Models along with the 22nd running of the Baker Cup. A total of 68 drivers signed into the pit gate including three of the Wissota National point leaders.

Dustin Strand would sit on the pole for the Wissota Late Model feature and had the field covered for the first half of the race. Joey Pederson started in the fifth spot and with about six to go made a charge for the top spot, Pederson had a good run out of corner two and looked like was ready to take the lead, but a yellow killed all that momentum. Strand got a good jump on the restart and went on to get the win. Pederson finished second and Brand Seng third. Heat wins went to Seng, Jason Strand and Ryan Kereluk.

The Wissota Modified feature for the Baker Cup would send 16 of 17 cars to take the green flag. Aaron Blacklance and Dustin Strand shared the front row as Blacklance got the jump on Strand and lead the first lap, but Strand would take the lead coming out of corner two. Four cautions kept everything fairly close, and the last nine laps ran caution free, as Strand pulled away in the end to get the win, and sweep of the evening. Joseph Thomas had a good run as he started eleventh and wound up finishing second with Blacklance third. Blacklance and Aaron Holtan picked up the other heat wins.

Trey Hess started outside pole for the Wissota Street feature and lead the first laps before James Meagher made the pass for the lead coming out of corner two. Hess brought out the only caution when he spun in corner two, collecting Jeremy Gust, both drivers were unable to continue. On the restart, Meagher held the lead until Tucker Pederson passed him at the flagstand to lead lap five. Pederson ran the last ten laps without a challenge to get his second win of the year, Jerome Berger finished second and won his heat and Meagher finished third. Gust picked up the other heat win.

There was something in the air for the Wissota Midwest Modified feature, as the caution flag flew early and often. Chris Edmonds lead the first two laps before flew off the top of corner one. This handed the lead to Alex Johnson. After five cautions and only eight laps completed, the drivers were put in a "time out" as they sat in the infield while the Late Model feature ran. After the time out, two more yellows flew when officials decided to go to a green, white, checkered finish. Johnson help off National points leader Jake Smith to pick up his first ever win. Connor Graff would finish third. Doyle Erickson, Paul Veert, and Joel Olson picked up the heat wins.

Up next for the Race Park will be the MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprint Summer Shootout with drivers coming from all across the U.S. and Canada. Also racing the night will be the Wissota Midwest Mods, Streets and Pure Stocks. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:30, cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with the green flag dropping at 7pm sharp.
