Greenbush Race Park
Peterson, Blacklance, Gust and Berg grab GRP checkers
It was a beautiful night for racing at the Greenbush Race Park as 73 drivers were signed in for the nights racing and the Olson cup was up for grabs for the MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprints.
Only nine Wissota Streets were in attendance and outside polesitter James Meagher was the early leader. Meagher lead the first five circuits until he spun coming out of corner two. This handed the lead over to Jeremy Gust. Over the last 10 laps Gust had to deal with a pesky Dan McNamee. McNamee kept the pressure on gust but could not gain enough momentum to make the pass for the lead. Gust went on to pick up his third win of the year with McNamee finishing second and Jerome Berger third. Meagher won the only heat race.
The Wissota Pure Stock feature wasn't decided until the checkers flew. Aaden Olson sat outside row one and lead the first two laps before he brought out the first yellow spinning in corner four. This handed the lead to Deryk Weleski and he lead the next six before he was passed by Billy Binkley out of turn two. When the white flew there were four drivers in a position to win, Binkley, Weleski, Dave Meyer and Josh Berg. Coming out of four to the checkers Berg was able to sneak by the other three to pick up his forth win in a row and fifth on the year. Binkley would finish second and Meyer third. Weleski would pick up the only heat win.
The Wissota Midwest Mods would send 22 cars to take the green for their feature and polesitter Taylor Jacobson would lead the first lap but by the time they came around for lap two, Doyle Erickson would be in front. Erickson lead the next six laps before he had mechanical problems and pulled into the infield handing the lead to Aaron Blacklance. After a couple of cautions on lap nine, Blacklance was able to keep everyone behind him as he went on to get his sixth win of the year and a sweep of the evening. Justin Olson would finish second and Jacobson third. Heat wins went to Patrick Sobolik, Paul Veert, and Jacobson.
The Wissota Modified feature ran caution free with a good run for rookie Ryan Johnson. Mike Tiani lead the first two laps before Johnson passed Tiani coming out of four to lead lap three. Johnson lead the next three laps before Tyler Peterson made the pass for the top spot on lap six. Peterson lead the final 14 laps unchallenged to get the sweep, and his sixth win in a row and eighth on the year. Johnson finished second and Dustin Wahl third. The other heat win went to Aaron Holtan.
The second running of the Olson Cup was up for grabs for the MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprints. Alex Truscinski sat on the pole and lead all 30 laps as he won by over a full straightaway over his father in second place, Alan Truscinski. Chris Crowder would finish third. Heat wins went to Alan Truscinski, Kate Taves, and Dexter Dvergsten.
In the 4 Cylinder feature, Shannon George ended the winning streak for Kalin Honer. George picked up his first win of the year as Honer finished second and got the only heat win and Gordon Hunter finished third.
Up next for the Greenbush Race Park will be the return of the Baker Cup for the Modifieds along with the NLRA Late Models. Joining the Mods and Late Models will be the Midwest Mods and Streets. Pit Gates open at 4:30 with the grandstands opening at 5:30. Cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with the racing getting under way at 7pm sharp.
