Greenbush Race Park

Peterson and Blacklance tough to beat at Greenbush Race Park

I am glad I'm not in the promoter's shoes on those iffy rainy days. Greenbush Race Park promoter Trapper Sovde was in this situation this past Saturday. A light drizzle started early and weather radar showed light rain until mid afternoon. What the promoter has to decide is does he cancel early so the racers traveling save on fuel, or does he ride it out hoping the weather clears. Luckily the drizzle remained light and the decision was made to race and it turned out to be a beautiful night for racing.

The Race Park was hosting a special for the Wissota Pure Stocks as 11 cars took the green flag. Through two cautions, polesitter Dustin Puffe in lead the way. Puffe was out in front by about four car lengths coming to take the white flag but then slowed and had to pull into the infield handing the lead to Josh Berg, who went on to get his third win on the year and second in a row. Dave Meyer would win his heat and finish second and Deryk Weleski was third. Dusty Caspers picked up the other heat win.

Only seven Wissota Streets were on hand for the evening's racing. James Meagher sat on the outside of the front row and lead the first three laps, but out of corner four, Weston Ramsrud made the pass for the lead to start lap four. Over the last 11 laps, Ramsrud never got to far ahead as he had to deal with Jeremy Gust and then John Halvorson, and a couple of time in the closing laps they were three wide a couple of times. When the checkers flew it was Ramsrud getting his second win with Halvorson finishing second and heat winner Gust in third.

The Wissota Midwest Mods sent 11 of 12 cars out for their feature and outside polesitter Shane Wahl lead the first three laps before he spun exiting turn two. This handed the lead to Connor Graff. Graff lead for the next five laps until a caution on lap nine. On the restart Aaron Blacklance passed Graff in corner two. One more caution two laps later kept everybody close but in the end Blacklance picked up his fifth win in as many races, Graff would finish second and Paul Veert third. Heat wins went to Wahl and Joel Olson

Twelve Wissota Modifieds were set for their feature and once again outside polesitter Shane Wahl lead the early laps. Shawn Teunis would make the pass for the lead exiting corner four to start lap four. Teunis lead until the halfway point at lap 10, but coming out of corner two Teunis was passed by Tyler Peterson. Peterson started eighth and had to deal with three cautions over the last 10 laps but managed to pull away by about a half straightaway to collect his sixth win of the year and fourth in a row. Teunis finished second and Jordan Duray third. Heat wins went to Rick Delaine and Joseph Thomas.

Kalin Honer remained perfect on the year in the 4 Cylinders picking up his third win in a row, and a sweep of the evening. Brandon Hunter finished second and Gordon Hunter third.

Up next at the Park will be the Advantage RV Modified Tour, also racing that night will be the Streets, Midwest Mods, Pure Stocks and 4 Cylinders. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:30. Cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with the racing starting at 7pm sharp.
