Greenbush Race Park

GRP checkers to Peterson, Schill, Pederson and Blacklance

Once again another great night of racing at the Greenbush Race Park as the NLRA Wissota Late Models made their first visit of the year.

The NLRA Wissota Late Models sent 15 of 16 car to take the green flag for their 25 lap feature. One caution before one lap was completed was the only thing that slowed this race. Cole Schill of Hawley, Mn., sat on the pole and was out in front from the beginning the only question was who was going to finish second. At about the halfway point it was a good three car race between Ryan Corbett, Brad Seng both of Grand Forks, N.D. and Mike Greseth of Harwood, N.D. Corbett would eventually distance himself from the other two. Schill would win by a straightaway with Corbett finishing second and Seng third. Greseth and Joey Pederson of East Grand Forks, Mn., would pick up the heat wins.

The Wissota Modifieds had a stout 11 car lineup including a couple of past National Champs. Rick Delaine of Stony Mountain, Mb., sat on the pole and was the early leader. The only caution of this race came on lap one and when it went back to green, Delaine was out in front. By lap four Tyler Peterson of Horace, N.D., had worked his way up from the eight starting spot and would pass Delaine for the lead coming out of corner four. Peterson would run the last 15 laps unchallenged and get the sweep of the night and second win in three weeks. Dustin Strand of East Grand Forks, Mn., started seventh and made a late race run as he got by Delaine to finish second and Delaine finished third. The other heat race win to Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, Mb.

The Wissota Midwest Modifieds would send 16 of the 19 cars to take the green for their feature. Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, Mn., would start third and lead lap one. Two early cations were the only thing that slowed Blacklance as the race run the last 13 laps caution free with Blacklance cruising to his second win in a row. A good battle for the second spot as Justin Olson of Thief River Falls, Mn., and Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, Mn., ran side by side for about five laps during the middle part of the race before Olson would pull away to finish second and Sobolik third. Heat wins went to Paul Veert of Winnipeg, Mb., Olson and Gary Nelson of Ponemah, Mn.

Eighteen cars were ready to take the green flag for the Wissota Street feature with outside polesitter Chad Hagen of Thief River Falls, Mn., the early leader, but down the backstretch going to lap two, Hagen slowed and fell to last place before recovering. This handed to lead to James Meagher of Grand Forks, N.D., and before they made it back to the flagstand, Trey Hess of Grand Forks, N.D. had the lead coming out of corner four. The only caution of the race came on lap three. On the restart Hess had the lead going into one but when they come out of corner two the lead belonged to Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, Mn. Peterson would win going away with Hess finishing second and Greg Jose of Grand Forks, N.D. third. Hess, Hagen, and Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, Mn., picked up the heat wins.

Up next at the Park will be the first ever visit for the INEX Legend cars. Also racing that night will be the Modifieds, Pure Stocks, MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprints, and 4 Cylinders. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:30, cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with racing starting at 7pm sharp. The Greenbush Race Park will also be hosting a baja race on Sunday July 3rd.
