Greenbush Race Park
Fendered wins to Meyer and Gust, Blacklance sweeps Mods at GRP
JUNE 4th RESULTS!!!!
Cooler temps and 72 cars in the pits made for a great night of racing at the Greenbush Race Park.
The Wissota Modified feature would send 13 cars to take the green and polesitter Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, Mn., would be the early leader. The only caution of the race came on lap two, and when it went back to green Holtan had Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, Mn., on his bumper. Blacklance got by Holtan at the flagstand on lap seven and the pair were never more than a car length apart over the last half of the race. With about four to go Holtan had to deal with Shawn Teunis of West St. Paul, Mb. The leaders would have to deal with lapped traffic and Holtan got beside Blacklance with two to go, but Blacklance held him off setting up a last lap shootout. It was a drag race to the checkers with Blacklance edging out Holtan, and Holtan holding off Teunis. Holtan and Blacklance picked up the heat wins.
The Wissota Street feature was slowed by cautions and that kept everybody close but it was still good racing up front. Jerome Berger of Badger, Mn., sat on the pole and led the first lap, but when the came back around John Halvorson of Warren, Mn., was out in front. Halvorson held the lead until Berger got by him on the outside at the flagstand with seven to go. Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, Mn., would pass Berger coming out of four for the lead with two to go and when they got to corners three and four Berger got some help in spinning out and that set up a green, white, checkered finish, with Gust picking up the win with Berger finishing second and Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, Mn., third. The heat wins went to Halvorson and Berger.
Like the Street feature, the Wissota Midwest Mod feature was full of cautions, with one falling about every two laps. The boys were able to run caution free the last five laps as Aaron Blacklance held everyone off to pick up the win. The Veerts' of Winnipeg, Mb., Paul and Frank, would run second and third respectively. Heat wins went to Blake Higgenbothem of Bagley, Mn., Brandon Rehill of St. Andrews, Mb., and Frank Veert.
The Wissota Pure Stock sent seven cars out for their feature and outside polesitter Deryk Weleski of Bemidji, Mn,, lead early. Weleski had to contend with Dave Meyer of Thief River Falls, Mn., and Meyer got around Weleski in corner two with eight to go. A caution with only three to go bunched the field up but Meyer held everyone off to pick up the win. Weleski would finish second and Dusty Caspers of Bagley, Mn., third. Caspers also picked up the lone heat win.
The MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprints presented by Olson Underground ran 20 laps caution free and polesitter Alex Truschinski of Greenbush, Mn., capped off his birthday in fine style as he was never challenged for the lead and picked up the win. Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, Mn., would finish second, but could not get close enough to Truscinski to challenge for the lead. Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, Mn., finished third, and won her heat with the other heat win going to Truscinski.
Kalin Honer of Laporte, Mn., lead every lap of the 4 Cylinder feature for the sweep of the evening. Waylon Current of Bemidji, Mn., chased Honer for all 12 of those laps but couldn't get a fender on Honer to make a pass. Shannon George of Bagley, Mn., finished third.
Up next at the Greenbush Race Park will be the first visit of the year for the NLRA Late Models, joining the Late Models will be the Modifieds, Streets, and Midwest Mods. Pit Gates open at 4:30, Grandstands at 5:30. Cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with racing getting under way at 7pm sharp.
