Edmonds and Ramsrud get first Greenbush Race Park wins

The Greenbush Race Park opened it's 2022 Wissota race season with a beautiful night for racing and 65 cars in the pits, and it included two drivers picking up their first ever GRP win.

The Wissota Midwest Mods would send 19 cars to take the green flag and it was polesitter Chris Edmonds from Larimore, N.D. in front early. Edmonds was out in front by himself for the first half of the race until the caution flags came. Two yellows on lap eight and one on lap 10 kept everybody close and when the green flew with five to go Edmonds got a good start, but Gary James Nelson of Ponemah, Mn. was right on his bumper. Edmonds was able to hold off Nelson to pick up his first Race Park win, Nelson finished second and Doyle Erickson of Bagley, Mn. was third. Heat wins went to Erickson, Joseph LaValley of Bemidji, Mn., and Shane Wahl of Greenbush, Mn.

The 11 car Wissota street feature started with a caution before they even got a lap in. When the green did fly it was Weston Ramsrud of Bagley, Mn. out in front. After a couple more cautions on lap five Ramsrud had to hold off challenges from John Halvorson of Warren, Mn., and Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, Mn. Gust got beside Ramsrud with a couple to go but Ramsrud was able to hold him off to pick up his first ever GRP win, Gust finished second and Halvorson third. Heat wins went to Halvorson and Trey Hess of Grand Forks, N.D.

Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, Mn., would start outside front row for the 13 car Wissota Modified feature and lead the first seven laps. On lap eight, Tyler Peterson of Horace, N.D. slid up in front of Holtan in corner two and made it stick, but when they got to corner four, Holtan ended up spinning to the infield bringing out the only caution. Peterson was unchallenged over the last seven laps and went on to pick up the win with Dustin Strand of East Grand Forks, Mn., finishing second and Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, Mb., third. Heat wins went to Imrie and Shane Wahl.

The seven car Wissota Pure Stock feature ran caution free as Deryk Weleski chased Dusty Caspers for 15 laps. Weleski could get to about a car length from Caspers several times but didn't have enough momentum to get beside him for the pass. Caspers took home the checkers with Weleski finishing second and Dustin Puffe of LaPorte, Mn., third. Weleski was the lone heat winner.

The 12 car MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprint feature saw outside polesitter Alex Trucinski of Greenbush, Mn., take the early lead. Trucinski lead the first five laps before polesitter Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush wrestled the lead away in corner two. The only caution came on lap 12 when Wes Van Drunen of Fargo, N.D. slid of the top of corners three and four. He was running second at the time. Dvergsten would go unchallenged over the last eight laps to get the win, Alex Trucinski would finish second and Alan Trucinski, third. Heat wins went to Alex Trucinski and Kelsi Pederson.

Up next at the Park, will be a regular night of racing featuring the Wissota classes of Mods, Streets, Midwest Mods, and Pure Stocks, along with the MinnKota PowerI Lightning Sprints and 4 Cylinders. Pit gates open at 4:30, Grand stands at 5:30, cutoff for the draw is 6pm and the racing starting at 7pm sharp.
