Greenbush Race Park

GRP checkers to Caspers, Blacklance, Johnson, Peterson and Edginton

It was another stellar night of racing at the Greenbush Race Park as the NLRA Late Models made their final appearance of the year.

The NLRA Wissota Late Models were on hand for their final visit to the Park for the 2021 race season, and 16 cars lined up for their 25 lap feature. Outside pole sitter Shane Edginton of Winnipeg, MB, was the early leader. A couple of cautions on laps five and six kept everything tight early but then a long green flag run had Edginton in command. A caution with three to go put everyone on Edginton's bumper including Mike Greseth of Harwood, ND. Greseth worked his way up from the ninth starting position and got a good jump on the restart to challenge Edginton for the lead but another caution came out setting up a green, white, checkered finish. On the restart Edginton was the one who had the good start and slammed the door on everyone else picking up the win. Greseth would finish second and Brad Seng of Grand Forks, ND third. Heat wins went to Seng and Cole Babcock of Rothsay, MN.

The 11 car Wissota Modified feature would come right down to the wire. Mark Esala of Thief River Falls, MN, would be the early leader in this one leading the first five laps before Devin Fouquette of St. Cloud, MN, made the pass for the lead in corner three. A couple of cautions on lap eight kept everyone close and on the restart Fouquette was out in front again. Tyler Peterson of Hickson, ND, started seventh and was in hot pursuit of Fouquette. Peterson started to make things interesting with about four to go. Fouquette was running the bottom and Peterson would run the top in one and two and the bottom in three and four. Fouquette took the white flag and Peterson got a good run in one and two and got beside Fouquette in three and four and won the drag race out of four for the win. Fouquette finished second and Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, third. Heat wins went to Holtan and Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN.

The Wissota Street feature was another race that wasn't decided until the checkers flew. Fourteen cars took the green flag and James Meagher of Grand Forks, ND, lead the first three laps before Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, made the pass for the lead out of corner two. Johnson would then have to hold off challenges from Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, Daniel Aberle of Finley, ND and Aaron Blacklance. The only caution of the race came with three to go. On the restart Johnson would beat everyone to the gas pedal and go on to get the win his second of the year. Blacklance would finish second and Pederson third. Heat wins went to Aberle and Blacklance.

The Wissota Midwest Modified feature had a bad case of yellow fever as five cautions slowed the race. Jacob Wilde of Thief River Falls, MN, led the first three laps and the first caution came out. On the restart Justin Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, blew past Wilde for the lead before the caution came out again. Olson was out in front on the restart but lost the lead in corner four to Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, MN, one lap later Sobolik lost his lead to Aaron Blacklance in the same spot. The last caution came with six to go and Blacklance would hold everyone off to go on and get his sixth win of the year. Jake Smith of St. Joseph, MN, finished second and won his heat and Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, finished third and won his heat.

The Wissota Pure Stock feature only had two cautions, the first came just three laps in when leader Devyn Weleski of Bemidji, MN, went up in smoke. Dusty Caspers of Bagley, MN, inherited the lead and never looked back, picking up his third win of the year and a sweep of the night. Terry Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, finished second and Deryk Weleski of Bemidji, MN, third. The other heat win went to Macey Anderson of Viking, MN.
