Greenbush Race Park

Modified Mania winners Johnson and Blacklance at GRP

A picture perfect day turned into a great night of racing as the Greenbush Race Park welcomed the Advantage RV Modified tour and the Rebel Midwest Modified tour to town, and both classes didn't disappoint the full grandstand that showed up for the full night of racing.

A total of 23 Wissota Modifieds hit the track hoping to win their 40 lap feature. Billy Kendall III of Walker, MN, and Zach Johnson of Lowry, MN, shared the front row and it would be Kendall out in front for the first five laps before Johnson would make the pass for the lead out of corner four. Three cautions at the midway point slowed the race, but when it went back to green, Johnson was off on his own. The real race was deciding who was going to finish second through seventh as Kendall, Jeremy Nelson of Alexandria, MN, Tyler Peterson of Hickson, ND, Shane Sabraski of Rice, MN, and Ryan Gierke of Villard, MN. These five drivers all changed positions several times over the last half of the race. But it would be Johnson in his first ever visit to the Park getting the win and sweep of the night. Nelson would win the battle for second and collect a heat win while Sabraski would finish third. Peterson would pick up the other heat win.

A $2,000 dollar payday was on the line for the winner of the Rebel Wissota Midwest Modified feature, and 24 cars hit the track hoping it would be one of them. Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, would redraw the pole spot and would be out in front early. Cautions kept everything close for the first four laps but then they would run the last 21 laps caution free. Over those last 21 laps, Blacklance had a pretty good lead built up but Lucas Rodin of Marion, ND slowly ate away at that lead. With about seven to go Blacklance and Rodin hit lapped traffic, and Rodin got beside Blacklance at least once, and the pair would race out of corner four for the win, but it would be Blacklance edging out Rodin for the big payday. Nate Reinke of Lisbon, ND would finish in third. Tanner Theis of New Rockford, ND, and Lindsey Hansen of Fargo, ND picked up the B Main wins while heat wins went to Rodin, Jason Grimes of Jamestown, ND, Rusty Kollman of Carrington, ND and Les Schoon of Watertown, SD.

A dozen Wissota Streets lined up for their feature with James Meagher of Grand Forks, ND, the early leader. Meagher would bring out the only yellow for the race when he spun in corner three in front of the whole field; luckily everyone was able to avoid the spin. Dan McNamee of Arvilla, ND would lead the next three laps before Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, made the pass for the lead coming out of corner four. Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, would follow Johnson by McNamee. Pederson chased Johnson the last 10 laps, he got to his bumper a few times but could not get beside him to make a pass for the lead as Johnson went off to get his first GRP win of the year. Pederson would finish second and Doug Van Mill of Bagley, MN, third. Heat wins went to McNamee and Aaron Blacklance.

Only six cars on hand for the Wissota Pure Stock feature, but it was far from a boring race. Jace Gust of Strathcona, MN, lead the first four laps until the first of only two cautions came out. Gust would lose the lead as Deryk Weleski of Bemidji, MN, made the pass coming out of corner four on the restart. Dusty Caspers of Bagley, MN, would chase Weleski over the next seven laps, before he would pass Weleski in corner four for the lead. Caspers lead the last three laps as he picked up his second win in a row. Weleski would finish second and get the lone heat win and Tra Ewalt of Thief River Falls, MN, would finish third.

Up next at the Park will be the Olson Cup in memory of Lightning Sprint drivers Chad and Corey Olson. Joining the Lightning Sprints will be the Wissota classes of Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Modifieds, and Pure Stocks along with the 4 Cylinders. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:30, draw cutoff is at 6pm with the racing starting at 7pm sharp.
