Holtan, Blacklance, Sobolik, and Caspers get ROC checkers at GRP

Another hot day for racing as the Greenbush Race Park welcomed 65 drivers, with 55 of them looking to win the Afco Race of Champions invite to the Wissota 100.

The Wissota Streets would send seven of eight cars to the track for their feature, and it would be Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, out in front early. Johnson had to hold off early challenges from Jerome Berger of Badger, MN, and Doug Van Mill of Bagley, MN. Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, started last but by the halfway point he was on the bumper of Johnson, and with five to go Blacklance got by Johnson coming out of corner two to take the lead. Two laps later Johnson developed problems and pulled into the infield. Blacklance would go on to get his second win of the year with Berger finishing second, and Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN, third.

The Wissota Pure Stock feature looked like it was going to be a runaway as pole sitter Steve Nordhagen of Thief River Falls, MN, led the way. Dusty Caspers of Bagley, MN, started last in the seven car field and about five laps in he was in second and started to hunt down Nordhagen. With two to go, Caspers caught Nordhagen and made the pass for the lead coming out of corner four for the white flag. Caspers picked up his first win of the year, Nordhagen finished second and Tra Ewalt of Thief River Falls, MN, third. Jace Gust of Strathcona, MN, would get the lone heat win.

Thirteen Wissota Modifieds rolled out for their 20 lap feature that wasn't decided until the closing laps. Outside pole sitter Josh Beaulieu of Bemidji, MN, was the early leader with four cars chasing him. Doyle Erickson of Bagley, MN, Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, Tyler Kaeter of St. Cloud, MN, and Tyler Peterson of Hickson, ND. Kaeter fell back at about the halfway point making it three cars chasing Beaulieu. Everything changed when the only caution of the race came with four to go. On the restart Holtan blasted pass Beaulieu and was in front heading into the first corner, and went on to get his first win of the year. Erickson would finish second, while Beaulieu would finish third and win his heat. Tim Thomas of West Fargo, ND, would pick up the other heat win.

The 16 car Wissota Midwest Modified feature had another driver pick up their first win of the year, as Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, MN, started outside pole and led every lap. Sobolik looked strong and had a good lead built up, but a caution with two to go would set up a green, white, checkered finish. Sobolik got a good jump on the restart and would go on to get the win and sweep of the night. Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, finished second and win his heat, while Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls would finish third. Joel Olson of Karlstad, MN, would pick up the other heat win.

The 4 Cylinders would run their feature caution free and Shannon George of Bagley, MN, would pick up the win and sweep of the night. Kalin Honer of LaPorte, MN, chased George for all 12 laps, but couldn't get close enough to challenge for the lead. John Current of Bemidji, MN, finished third. Matt Pederson of Lake Park, MN, would pick up the other heat win.

Up next at the Park will be some Modified Madness as the Advantage RV Modified tour, the rescheduled Rebel Midwest Mod tour and the Dugan Nelson Memorial. The race will be streamed live on Dirt Race Central. Joining the Mods and Midwest Mods will be the Wissota Streets and Pure Stocks. Pit gates will open at 4pm, grandstands at 5:30, cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with a big night of racing set to start at 7pm sharp.
