Greenbush Race Park
A scary moment and a first time winner at GRP
A beautiful day turned into a great night for racing at the Greenbush Race Park as 49 cars checked in to try and take home a checkered flag.
Cautions were the early rule for the 12 car Wissota Pure Stock feature, and Macey Anderson of Newfolden, MN, would be the early leader through those cautions. The race would go caution free for the last 10 laps, and Anderson would lose her lead on lap seven when Steve Nordhagen of Thief River Falls, MN, would take the top spot coming out of corner four. Michael Roth of Deerwood, MN, would get by Anderson for second with four to go. Nordhagen would go on to pick up his second win in a row and a sweep of the night, with Roth finishing second and Tra Ewalt of Thief River Falls, MN, third. Anderson fell to fourth. The other heat win went to Dusty Caspers of Bagley, MN.
The Wissota Modifieds would run their feature caution free. Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would use the benefit of starting on the pole to lead all 20 laps. Wahl was never challenged for the lead and the real race was for second between Jordan Duray of Halma, MN, and Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN. Duray and Holtan were inseparable for nearly half the race until Holtan finally got around Duray late in the race to finish second with Duray third. Duray also picked up the lone heat win.
The scary moment and first time winner came out of the 15 car Wissota Midwest Modified feature. Taylor Jacobson of Roseau, MN, started outside front row and bolted to the early lead. Jacobson was cruising along when on lap nine, Ronnie Novacek of Greenbush, MN, climbed the front wall taking out about three sections of safety fence before coming to a stop just under the flag stand. Novacek would be okay. Hats off to the Greenbush Fire Dept. and GRP officials for getting the safety fence fixed in about an hour and 15 minutes. Jacobson picked up where he left off on the restart. His only lapse came with two to go when he bobbled slightly in one and two and this allowed Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, to get side by side with Jacobson. The two would run side by side down the backstretch and through three and four before Jacobson would pull away out of corner four to go on and lead the final lap and pick up his first ever feature win. Blacklance would finish second and win his heat with Joseph LaValley of Bemidji, MN, finishing third. Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would get the other heat win.
The 4 Cylinder feature would be a three car race early between Shannon George of Bagley, MN, Kalin Honer of LaPorte, MN, and John Current of Bemidji, MN. Honer and Current would separate themselves from George to run one and two. But on lap nine Honer was tagged with a caution sending him to the rear and giving the lead to Current. Current would pick up his second win in a row with a sweep of the evening; George would finish second with the other heat winner Cory Nelson of Leonard, MN, third.
The Limited Late Models made their first ever appearance at the Park. Only four cars were on hand and all four drivers were from Fergus Falls, MN. Ben Wolden picked up the heat and feature win, with Andrew Tysdal was second and Zack Tysdal third.
Up next, the Red Headed Rebel Scott Bintz brings the Rebel Midwest Modified tour to the Park in conjunction with the Duggan Memorial. With a payday of $2,000 to win and $150 to start, this race could draw upwards of 40+ Wissota Midwest Modifieds. Also racing that night will be the Wissota Modifieds, Streets, and Pure Stocks. Pit Gates open at 4pm, Grandstands at 5:30, cutoff for the draw is at 6pm with racing getting under way at 7pm sharp.
