Greenbush Race Park
Four more first time winners at Greenbush Race Park
It was another warm and sticky night for racing at the Greenbush Race Park, which included a modest car count and only three cautions flew over the six features made for a quick night of racing.
It was another light field of Modifieds on hand but Jordan Duray of Karlstad, MN, would be out in front early from the pole. Duray would hold onto the lead until new dad, Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, would make the pass for the lead on lap six coming out of corner two. The only caution came at the halfway point and even through the restart Holtan was able to hold everyone off, but late in the race it looked like Holtan developed some type of mechanical issue. Holtan had enough to hold on to get the win and the sweep, but had to be pushed into victory lane. This was Holtan's third win on the year and second in a row. Mark Esala of Thief River Falls, MN, finished second and Duray third.
The Streets would send 11 cars to take the green flag, and outside pole sitter Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, would be in command from the start. A caution about halfway through put everyone on Johnsons' bumper, but on the restart he was in command once again. A good four car battle for second between Doug Van Mill of Bagley, MN, Jerome Berger of Badger, MN, Joe Potter of Euclid, MN, and Jeremy Gust of Strathcona took place after the restart with Berger eventually getting the edge and then started to put pressure on Johnson, but Johnson would hold everyone off to get his second win and a sweep of the evening. Berger would finish second and Potter third. John Halvorson of Warren, MN, picked up the other heat win.
The 11 car Midwest Modified feature would run 15 laps caution free and Gary James Nelson of Ponemah, MN, would lead all 15 of those laps. Nelson started outside second row, and had to hold off Ronnie Novacek of Greenbush, MN, and then a few laps later Justin Olson of Thief River Falls, MN. Nelson would go on to pick up his first GRP win of the year, Olson would finish second and Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, MN, third. Heat wins went to Connor Graff of Greenbush, MN, and Hunter Hougard of Warren, MN.
Steve Nordhagen of Thief River Falls, MN, would sit on the pole for the 12 Pure Stock feature and would lead the first three laps before Austin Brekkestran of Thief River Falls, MN, would make the pass for the lead out of corner four. Brekkestran started fourth and late in the race would have to hold off the hard charging Dusty Caspers of Bagley, MN. But Brekkestran was able to hold Caspers off for his first GRP win of the year and a sweep of the evening. Caspers would finish second and win the other heat and Ryan Hagen of Thief River Falls, MN, was third.
Only eight Lightning Sprints were on hand for their feature and it would be pole sitter Jason Berg of West Fargo, ND out to the early lead. But coming from outside row two was Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN, and he made the pass for the lead down the front stretch on lap two. The only caution in this race came on lap five, and on the restart Dvergsten was gone and was never challenged over the last 10 laps to get his first GRP feature win of the year and a sweep of the evening. Alex Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, would finish second and father Alan Truscinski also of Greenbush, MN, third.
The 4 Cylinders would also run their feature caution free and in the end someone other than John Current of Bemidji, MN, was in victory lane. Kalin Honer of Laporte, MN, started inside second row and was never challenged for the lead as he went on to get his first ever GRP feature win and sweep of the evening. Current would finish second and Cory Nelson of Leonard, MN, third.
