Greenbush Race Park
A hot and sticky night at GRP
An inch of rain the night before had the track crew at the Greenbush Race Park scrambling to get the race surface and grounds ready for another night of racing, and their hard work paid off as the race program went off without a hitch.
Chase Boen of Karlstad, MN, would lead the 10 car Street feature to the green. Boen would lead the first three laps before he would surrender the lead to Dave Meyer of Thief River Falls, MN, down the backstretch. Boen would chase Meyer the rest of the race and got close one time late in the race but
Meyer would hold him off to pick up his first win since 2001. Boen would finish second and Jerome Berger of Badger, MN, third. Heat wins went to Doug VanMill of Bagley, MN, and Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN.
Pole sitter Mark Esala of Thief River Falls, MN, would take the early lead in the eight car Modified feature, but his lead would only hold up for two laps when Dustin Strand would pass Esala coming out of corner two. Strand was never challenged after that and went on to pick up his second win in three weeks. Jordan Duray of Halma, MN, and Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, had a good battle for the second and third spot with Duray taking second and Holtan third. Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would pick up the lone heat win.
Eight cars would take the green flag in the Midwest Modified feature and outside pole sitter Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, would take the lead. A three-car battle between Hunter Hougard of Warren, MN, Jordan Wahl of Greenbush, MN, and Lance Schill of Langdon, ND, would make sure it was
not easy for Blacklance. Schill would challenge Blacklance early, and Hougard, looking for his third win in a row, would make it interesting late in the race, but Blacklance would hold them all off to pick up the win, Hougard would finish second and get the heat win, and Wahl third.
The nine car Pure Stock feature ran caution free. Tra Ewalt of Thief River Falls, MN, sat on the pole and would lead the first 10 laps, but it would be Dusty Caspers of Bagley, MN, passing Ewalt out of corner two for the lead and go on to pick up the win and sweep of the evening. Ewalt would finish second and Brent Walsh of Roseau, MN, third.
The Minn-Kota POWRi Lightning Sprints sent 11 cars to the track for their feature. Corey Olson of Badger, MN, would jump out to the early lead. A caution on lap nine would bunch the field back up and on the restart Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, would start third from her eighth place starting spot and pass Bryce Haugeberg of West Fargo, ND, for second and set her sights on Olson. Pederson would pass Olson out of corner four and go on to get the checkers. Cody Swanson of Middle River, MN,
would finish second and Olson third. Dexter Dvergsten and Alan Truscinski both of Greenbush, MN, got the heat wins.
Kelly Steele of International Falls, MN, proved he was still the guy to beat in the Outlaw Mini Mods, as he led flag to flag to pick up the win. Tyler Jonson of International Falls, MN, would finish second and get the heat win and Justin Johnson of Baudette, MN, third.
