Greenbush Race Park
Erickson, Hougard and Johnson get wins at GRP
A questionable afternoon of sunshine and a few sprinkles turned into a great night of racing as 65 cars signed in at the pit gate to try and bring home the checkered flag at the Greenbush Race Park.
The Midwest Modifieds would send 11 cars to take the green for their feature and Taylor Jacobson of Roseau, MN, would take the early lead. Jacobson was chased the entire race by Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, and Hunter Hougard of Warren, MN. Jacobson managed to keep Blacklance and Hougard behind him as they worked through lapped traffic, but on the white flag lap Hougard would get by Blacklance and Jacobson to take the lead out of corner two and go on to pick up his second feature win in a row. Jacobson would finish second, and John Halvorson of Warren, MN, third. Heat wins went to Blacklance and Jacobson.
Pole sitter Jared Palm of Warroad, MN, would lead the 11 car Street feature to the green and also lead the first four laps before the first caution flew. On the restart Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, would pass Palm down the backstretch for the lead. Doug VanMill of Bagley, MN, got by Palm four laps later and then set his sights on Johnson. VanMill would make it interesting but couldn't get by Johnson and Johnson went on to get the win and the sweep of the night. VanMill would finish second and Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN, third. Jerome Berger of Badger, MN, would pick up the other heat win.
Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would start on the pole of the Modified feature and lead the early laps. Wahl would hold the lead even through four early cautions, but with five to go Doyle Erickson of Bagley, MN, would grab the lead in corner four and go on to pick up the win. The real race was for the 2nd - 5th place and Wahl would hold the others off to take second and collect the heat win. Jordan Duray of Halma, MN, would finish third.
Steve Nordhagen of Thief River Falls, MN, made it two in a row as he picked up the win in the 14 car Pure Stock feature. Nordhagen took the lead on lap two, and then had to hold off defending Wissota Pure Stock National Champion Cory Jorgenson of Duluth, MN, and Dusty Caspers of Bagley, MN. Caspers would win his heat and finish second and Jorgenson would finish third and win his heat.
The Minn-Kota POWRi Lightning Sprints made their first appearance of the year at the Park, and it would be pole sitter Alex Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, jumping out to the early lead. Truscinski was pushed early by his father Alan of Greenbush, MN, and Cody Swanson of Middle River, MN, meanwhile Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, had trouble in her heat but was quietly making her way forward in the feature. She got close enough to get a wheel on the younger Truscinski but didn't have enough to make the pass and Alex T. would go on to get the win and the sweep of the night. Pederson would finish second, and Alan T., third. Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN, would pick up the other heat win.
John Current of Bemidji, MN, is still the guy to beat in the 4 Cylinders as he picked up his second win and sweep in as many weeks. Kalan Honer of Laport, MN, finished second and Shannon George of Bagley, MN, third.
Up next at the Park will be just a regular night of racing featuring the Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Lightning Sprints and Outlaw Mini Mods. During intermission 2019 point plaques will be handed out to the top three drivers for the Lightning Sprints and Outlaw Mini Mods. Masks and Social Distancing are suggested. Pit gates open at 4:30 pm, grandstands at 5:30 pm. Cutoff for the draw is at 6 pm and the green flag drops at 7 pm sharp.
