FINALLY, the checkered flag flies at GRP

After losing race dates in May and all of June due to Covid-19, and Mother Nature rearing her ugly head for the 4th of July opener, The Greenbush Race Park was finally able to turn some laps under green flag conditions.

Dustin Strand of East Grand Forks, MN, doesn't make it to the Park that often, but when he does he's a good bet to park it in the winner's circle at the end of the night, and he did just that in the Modified feature. Strand led all 20 laps, but it wasn't easy as Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, MN, was nipping at his back bumper the entire time. Strand would sweep the evening, Wahl would finish second and Jamie Trautner of Hendrum, MN, would finish third.

Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, was hoping to carry over some momentum from a Friday night win at River Cities Speedway to his Saturday night feature. Pederson started third and managed to hold off early challenges from Jerome Berger of Badger, MN, and later Doug Van Mill of Bagley, MN, to go on to get the win and a sweep. Van Mill would finish second and Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, third.

Hunter Hougard of Warren, MN, would pass Jordan Wahl of Greenbush, MN, coming out of corner four for the lead on lap one of the Midwest Modified feature. Even through a handful of cautions, Hougard managed to hang on to the lead and go on to get the win. Wahl would finish second and Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, MN, third. Heat wins went to Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, and Lance Schill of Langdon, N.D.

The Pure Stock feature was troubled by early cautions but when they did get rolling Steve Nordhagen of Thief River Falls, MN, would pass Robbie Hruby of Baudette, MN, out of corner two for the lead on lap two. Nordhagen was never challenged after that as he went on to get his first GRP feature win and sweep of the night. Hruby would finish second, and Ryan Anderson of Newfolden, MN, third.

The first half of the 4 Cylinder feature saw Kalan Honer of Laport, MN, John Current of Bemidji, MN, and Cory Nelson of Leonard, MN, racing three wide for the lead. Current would finally take the lead and go on to get the win and the sweep. Shannon George of Bagley, MN, would finish second and Nelson third.

Kelly Steele of International Falls has been the guy to beat in the Outlaw Mini Mods, and he proved it again as he lead flag to flag to get the win and sweep. Justin Johnson of Baudette, MN, would finish second and Jerry Larson of Grand Rapids, MN, third.

Up next at the "Park" will be a regular night of racing featuring the Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Lightning Sprints and 4 Cylinders. Pit gates open at 4:30 pm, grandstands at 5:30 pm, cutoff for the draw is at 6 pm with the green flag dropping at 7pm sharp.
