Greenbush Race Park
Seng, Strand, and Reynolds grab Greenbush Race Park checkers
The stage was set for a perfect night of racing for the Wissota PolyDome Dirt Track Series at the Greenbush Race Park, and 74 cars signed in at the pit gate all with hopes of picking up the W.
The NLRA Late Models made their second visit to the Race Park, their first was rained out. Brad Seng of Grand Forks, ND would sit on the pole and lead the 18-car field to the green. It wouldn't take long for Seng to show that he would be the car to beat. Four-time Wissota Late Model National Champion Ricky Weiss of Headingley, MB would start fifth and settle into the second spot. Seng worked his way through lapped traffic and was never challenged for the top spot and had a full straightaway led over Weiss, as the race ran 25 laps caution free and Seng would pick up the sweep. Weiss would finish second and Shane Edginton of East St. Paul, MB third. Steffen Snare of Hallock, MN and Cole Schill of Horace, ND won the other heats.
Dustin Strand of Grand Forks, ND found much better success in his Modified than his Late Model, and like the Late Model feature, the Modified feature also went caution free. Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN started third and led the first eight circuits before Strand would make the pass coming out of corner four for the lead. Holtan was never more than a couple of car lengths back but couldn't get close enough to challenge for the lead as Strand would go on to pick up his third Modified win of the year. Holtan would finish second and win his heat and Bryan Dyrdahl of Bagley, MN would finish third. Jerome Guyot of Fannystelle, MB would win the other heat.
Outside polesitter Murray Kozie of Headingley, MB would get out to the early lead in the 10 car Midwest Modified feature. Caution flew on lap nine and put everyone on Kozie's bumper. Kozie held the lead through one and two, but Nate Reynolds of Edinburgh, ND would make the pass for the lead coming out of corner four and lead the last five laps to pick up his fourth win of the year. Kozie would come home second and Alex Johnson of Hallock, MN third. Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN and John Halvorson of Warren, MN would pick up the heat wins.
Brendan Mullen of Grand Forks, ND would lead the 20 car Lightning Sprint feature to the green and was in control. Behind him it was a good battle for the second, third, and forth spot between Brandon Johnson of Holt, MN, Alan Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, and Presley Truedson of Kennedy, MN. The only yellow of this race came with three to go and the youngster Mullen was going to have to hold off some tough cars behind him. Truscinski had the best shot as he got beside Mullen just out of corner two on the white flag lap, but Mullen held him off and picked up his first win and sweep at the Race Park. Truscinski would finish second, and Johnson third and win his heat, Truedson would win her heat, while Alex Truscinski would win his heat.
The 12 car Pure Stock feature had Cory Peterson of Red Lake, MN leading the first four laps until Daryl Heintz of East St. Paul, MB made the pass for the lead coming out of turn four. Winner of the first seven features, Jared Palm of Warroad, MN worked his way into the second spot after starting sixth but he couldn't catch Heintz and his win streak came to an end as Heintz would pick up the win by about three car lengths. Palm would finish second and Jerome Berger of Roseau, MN third. Heintz and Palm would win their heats.
Up next for the fastest 1/4 track in Northwestern Minnesota is the $1,000 to win Chad Olson Memorial for the Lightning Sprints. This will also be the AFCO race of Champs for the WISSOTA divisions. Also racing that night will be the Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Modifieds, and Pure Stocks. Gates open at 4 pm with the cutoff for the draw at 6 pm and the racing starting at 7 pm sharp.
