Greenbush Race Park
Imrie, Teunis, and Reynolds take home Mid-Season Hardware at Greenbush Race Park
On a beautiful Saturday evening and 71 cars signed in to the pits, it was Mid-Season Championship night at the Greenbush Race Park.
Point leader Jesse Teunis of West St. Paul, MB would lead the 11 car Street feature to the green flag. Sitting on the outside pole was second place point man Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN. From the drop of the flag this duo showed what great racing was all about, never getting more than a car length away from each other and great side by side racing without touching each other. Johnson would lead the first four laps before Teunis would grab the lead on lap five coming out of corner two. Teunis would lead the next five laps when Johnson would make the pass coming out of corner four. But on the white flag lap Teunis would get beside Johnson on the back stretch and beat him to the checkered flag by a foot. In the closing laps Art Linert of Badger, MN, and John Halvorson of Warren, MN, had a good battle going for the third spot with Halvorson winning that battle. Teunis made it a sweep of the evening and Johnson got the other heat win.
Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, MB has had a good couple of weekends at the Park, as he picked up his third win in a row. Imrie started fourth in the 16-car field and take over the top spot from Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, MN with a pass coming out of corner two on lap nine. Dustin Strand would start in the twelfth spot and slowly work his way through the field. Strand would get by Wahl on lap 12 for the second spot, but would not be able to get to Imrie to challenge for the lead, as he would finish second and Wahl third. Heat wins to Imrie, Strand and Rick Delaine of Stony Mountain MB.
Thirteen Midwest Modifieds took the green flag and polesitter Nate Reynolds of Edinburg, ND would jump to the lead. The race was slowed by two cautions, including a 20-minute red flag situation to fix the front catch fence. Reynolds was in control the whole race, second place finisher Hunter Hougard of Warren, MN was catching Reynolds, but just ran out of laps. Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN would finish third and win his heat with the other heat win going to John Halvorson.
Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN would lead the first lap of the 13 car Lightning Sprint feature before the first caution flew on lap two. On the restart, before they could make it back to the flag stand Brandon Johnson would pass Presley Truedson of Kennedy, MN and Dvergsten for the lead coming out of corner four. Dvergsten and Truedson would race side by side for a couple of laps before Truedson would make the pass on lap eight coming out of corner four for the second spot. Johnson would cruise picking up his third win in a row and a sweep of the evening. Truedson would finish second and Alex Truscinski of Greenbush, MN third. Dvergsten would pick up the other heat win.
The big question in the Pure Stock feature is would anybody be able to beat Jared Palm of Warroad, MN Palm has won every feature in this class this year and would sit on the pole and take the lead with outside polesitter Jerome Berger of Roseau, MN, never more than a car length back. Berger would chase Palm for 10 laps and on lap 11 was finally able to make the pass in corner four. Berger had built up a four to five car length over Palm, but coming to the checkered flag he spun exiting corner four and handed the win to Palm for his seventh win in a row and a sweep of the evening. Daryl Heintz of East St. Paul, MB would finish second and Berger would recover to finish third.
Bill Perdonic of Winnipeg, MB would hold off John Current of Wilton, MN for a sweep of the 4-Cylinders. Denis Saguin of Winnipeg, MB would finish third.
Up next for the fastest 1/4-mile dirt track in Northwestern Minnesota, will be the NLRA Late Models. Also racing that evening will be the Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and Lightning Sprints. Gates open at 4pm with the cutoff for the draw at 6pm and the racing starting at 7pm sharp. Pure Stock drivers wanting to race in the Byfuglien memorial, you must race one race prior to that event at the Race Park and not hold a license any higher than a Pure Stock license to qualify for the full payout.
