Strand, Reynolds, Gust, Palm, and Truedson win at Greenbush Race Park

A hot a breezy night greeted racers and fans at the Greenbush Race Park for the second weekend of racing for the WISSOTA PolyDome Dirt Track Series.

Pole sitter Jordan Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would lead the 15 car Midwest Modified field to the green. Wahl would lead the early stages of the race but was followed closely by Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN and Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN. The first caution would come on lap 5 when John Halvorson of Warren, MN would spin in three and four. One lap later it would be Shane Wahl spinning in the same spot. Nate Reynolds of Edinburg, ND had worked his way to the second spot on the restart after starting ninth, and on lap eight would pass Wahl in corner four for the lead. Reynolds would go on to pick up his second feature win in as many weeks and a sweep of the evening. Jordan Wahl would finish second and Hunter Hougard third. Justin Olson and Shane Wahl would collect the other heat wins.

16 year old Bryton Foss of Greenbush, MN would lead the 19 car Modified feature to the green flag and it would take two attempts before they could get one lap in. The second yellow for Foss as he spun in front of the entire field in corner four. On the restart it would be Ryan Kereluk of St. Andrews, MB to lead the next six laps before Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, MN would pass Kereluk in corner two for the lead. Two laps later Dustin Strand of Grand Forks, ND passed Wahl out of corner four for the lead only to have it wiped out by a yellow on lap nine. Strand would take the lead two laps later as he used the high side to get past Wahl coming out of turn four. Strand would lead the last nine laps to pick up his second win in a row and a sweep of the evening. Wahl would finish second and win his heat, and Mark Esala of Thief River Falls, MN came from 11th to finish third. The other heat win went to Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, MB.

Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN would lead the eleven car Street feature to the green flag and would take the lead from the get go. Gust was pressured early by Dave Meyer of Thief River Falls, MN and Jesse Teunis of West St. Paul, MB. The only caution of the race came on lap four when Art Linert of Badger, MN spun coming out of corner four. On the restart Gust would have to hold off Meyer and Teunis once again but did manage to build a small lead. The race would then become a three car battle for the second spot as Ryan Johnson of Karlstad MN would pass Teunis for second with three to go, but Gust had built a comfortable lead, and would go on to pick up his first win and sweep of the year. Johnson would finish second and win his heat, and Teunis would finish third.

Fifteen cars would take the green for the Lightning Sprint feature and it would be 15yr old pole sitter Presley Truedson of Kennedy, MN to grab the early lead. The young lady would hold off an early challenge from Brandon Johnson of Holt, MN, even threw two early cautions. She would lead all 15 laps to pick up her first feature of the year, Johnson would finish second and win his heat, and Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN would finish third and win his heat. Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN would win her heat.

Ethan Larson of Newfolden, MN would lead the first 11 laps of the Pure Stock feature before Jared Palm of Warroad, MN would pass him coming out of corner four. Palm would go on to pick up his second checkered flag of the year and a sweep of the evening. Jerome Berger of Roseau, MN would finish second and win the other heat, and Larson would finish third.

John Currant of Bemidji, MN would lead all 12 laps of the caution free 4 Cylinder feature for the sweep, Katie Ahrndt of Hawley, MN would finish second and Macey Anderson of Viking, MN would finish third.

Up next for the fastest 1/4 dirt track in Northwestern Minnesota will be another regular night of racing on June 10th, featuring all six classes, Modifieds, Streets, Midwest Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Lightning Sprints and 4 Cylinders. At intermission we will be handing out point plaques to the top three drivers in each class from the 2016 racing season.
