GEORGETOWN, DE – So it begins.
The 2024 Georgetown Speedway season got underway on Friday night with an Open Practice session that was moved forward by 24 hours due to the weather.
Despite the change of plans, 30 race cars were in attendance for the first green flag of the new year at the Sussex County oval, opening the ninth season for BD Motorsports Media LLC as the facility’s promoter.
The Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman led the way with 14 different competitors participating.
Drivers were greeted with a smooth and wide racing surface to open the season, despite the frigid temperatures developing throughout the night.
Bishopville, Md.’s Devin Dodson led the way with a time of 19.490 in the first session of the night. Dodson also paced the field in multiple other sessions as well in his No. 23.
Other divisions represented were the Stockley Speed & Supply Super Late Models, the First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models, the Feebs Distilling Delmarva Chargers, Delaware Super Trucks, and the Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Car Club.
Another practice is slated for this Sunday, March 3, weather permitting. An announcement will be made later today or early Sunday after evaluating facility and speedway conditions.
Should conditions permit, Sunday’s Open Practice will see the gates open at 11:30 a.m. and cars on track at 1 p.m.
A decision on the March 3 practice will be announced Sunday morning.
A third and final Open Practice is slated for Friday, March 8 before the 2024 season opening race on March 9.
