One Historic Night: Get Up to Speed with Thursdays Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Event
GEORGETOWN, DE – One historic night.
On Thursday (Aug. 24), Georgetown Speedway hosts the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for the first time ever – and the inaugural visit to the state of Delaware – with the $18,049-to-win Melvin L. Joseph Memorial.
The nations leading Super Late Model competitors – topped by leader Ricky Thornton Jr. – challenge the Sussex County oval in an event postponed by rain in April. Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regulars Thornton, Hudson ONeal, Jonathan Davenport, Tim McCreadie, Brandon Overton, Devin Moran, Daulton Wilson, Max Blair, Earl Pearson Jr., Tyler Erb, Spencer Hughes and Delawares Ross Robinson are among those ready to make history in Georgetown.
NASCAR Cup Series star Ross Chastain will be in competition driving a Niece Motorsports Super Late Model and will be available for autographs from 5-6 p.m. in the grandstand area.
Niece Motorsports will field a pair of Super Late Models at the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial, with dirt Modified superstar Matt Sheppard making his debut with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Jimmy Spencer is the events Grand Marshal and will meet fans from 4-5 p.m. ‘Mr. Excitement will also address the crowd during Opening Ceremonies.
Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers complete the program in 12-lap features.
Gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:20 p.m. and racing at 7:15 p.m.
All grandstand seating is general admission at this event.
Cash only is accepted at the gate. Grandstand admission is $35 (Adults), $30 (Seniors ages 65 and over) & Students (ages 13-17), $20 Kids (ages 9-12) and Children 8 and under are FREE.
Pit admission is $45 (ages 13 and up), $15 Kids (ages 6-12), and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.
Coolers are permitted. No glass bottles.
Blankets may be put down prior to 3:30 p.m. The grandstand area will be cleared at that time so ticket sales can begin.
Food and beverages will be available including Ettas Catering and the Frozen Farmer in the grandstand area and JD Shuckers/Stockley Tavern in the pit area.
Novelties will be on sale in the Georgetown Speedway stand behind the ticket booths.
The event will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv) via the annual subscription.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
