NASCAR Cup Series Star Ross Chastain to Compete at Georgetown Melvin L. Joseph Memorial
GEORGETOWN, DE – NASCAR Roots.
With the NASCAR Cup Series scheduled at nearby Dover Motor Speedway in Dover, Del., superstar Ross Chastain has set plans to compete at Georgetown Speedway Friday, April 28 in the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event.
Chastain will drive a Niece Motorsports Super Late Model in the $18,049-to-win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series debut at Georgetown and in the state of Delaware.
The historic Georgetown oval was constructed by First State business and auto racing icon Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, hosting its first event in March 1950. Annually, the racing community honors Josephs memory with a memorial race at the four-tenths-mile oval.
Josephs lucky number – 49 – is incorporated into the event each year.
Chastain welcomes the opportunity to turn laps at the revitalized facility, which has seen numerous facility improvements during the off-season.
“I cant wait to get to Dover race weekend to run the Niece Motorsports dirt Late Model at Georgetown Speedway,â Chastain said. “Even being from South Florida, Delaware feels like home thanks to my work with Melvin L. Joseph Construction Company, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety and the Mar-Del Watermelon Association. Ken Adams and his family have been tireless supporters of racing and to compete at Georgetown Speedway is an honor. I look forward to a great night of racing and meeting with fans from the community.â
Chastain will be available to meet fans and sign autographs on the grandstand midway from 5:30-6 p.m.
Chastain, of Alva, Fla., is a full-time competitor in the NASCAR Cup Series driving for Trackhouse Racing. Chastain gained nationwide recognition during the 22 fall event at Va.s Martinsville Speedway for a wild “Hail Melonâ wall maneuver launching him into the Championship Four.
For the April 28 Melvin L. Joseph Memorial, pit gates open at 4 p.m. Grandstand gates unlock at 5 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6:20 p.m., with racing at 7:15 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $35 for Adults, $30 for Seniors (ages 65 and over) and Students (ages 13-17), $10 for Kids (ages 9-12) and Children 8 and under are FREE.
