Andrew Buff Charges to First Career Fulton Speedway Modified Win on Bayberry Automotive Night

By Hannah Doll

FULTON, NY (August 11, 2024)- Saturday night at Fulton Speedway was filled with first-time winners as drivers from all over the United States and Canada filled the pit area for a night of adrenaline-pumping action presented by Bayberry Automotive. Latham, New York driver Andrew Buff raced to a convincing win in the 35-lap Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified feature event, leading the last 19 laps for his first career Fulton 358 win.

A pair of features held over from June 8 and July 22 respectively would kick off the night with Teddy Clayton Jr capturing his first-ever DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman win and Fulton's Cale Gareau taking home the win in the E & V Energy Novice Sportsman competition.

Teddy Clayton Jr. would make it twice as nice as he took home the regularly scheduled DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman to make it a clean sweep for the evening. Kyle Demo (IMCA STARS Mod Lite Beast of the East), Brandon Barron (Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stocks), and Camdin Cook (E & V Energy Novice Sportsman) were also winners in a seven feature show.

Brent Joy and Tim Harris paced the Tracey Road Modified field to the Comfort Windows firing point, bringing the field to green for the 35-lap feature event.

Joy took the early race lead as third-place starter Matt Caprara took over second from Harris.

As Joy jumped out to a multi-car length lead, the first Milton Cat caution flew on lap 7 for a flat right rear tire on the 83x of point leader Tim Sears Jr. The field would regroup with Joy and Caprara leading the way.

On the restart, Joy once again drove away with the lead, but Caprara began hunting down Joy and used the high side to take over the lead on lap 12. His lead would be short-lived, however, as the second Milton Cat caution slowed the pace again on lap 13.

Caprara established control on the restart and continued to lead until lap 16, when the 11th starting Buff used a power move to get past both second and first and drive away with the lead.

Two more Milton CAT cautions would fly on laps 17 and 19 which kept the field close to Buff. It was the lap 19 restart that would be Buff's biggest test as multi-time track Champion Larry Wight would restart on his rear bumper.

Buff fired strong and kept Wight's #99L at bay running a middle line very few others were running. The line worked as he steadily inched away from Wight building up a six-car length lead as the laps wound down. Wight's final chance came as Buff caught lapped traffic with just a couple laps to go, but Buff's #92 Kevlar Powered Bicknell was just too strong

Buff cruised to a multi-car length lead to picking up his first career Tracey Road Modified feature with over Wight. Sears Jr recovered from his flat tire to cross the line third, with eighteenth starter David Marcuccilli coming home in fourth. Watertown's Billy Dunn rounded out the top 5.

After a dominating run in the holdover feature, picking up his first career DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature win, Teddy Clayton Jr completed the evening sweep winning the regular scheduled feature over Cody Manitta. Jimmy Moyer crossed in third, with fourteenth starter Brett Sears following in fourth. Emmett Waldron completed the top 5.

With a $2,000 payday on the line, Mod Lite drivers from all over the United States and Canada hit the high banks for night 1 of the IMCA Stars Beast of the East Showdown. Brewerton Speedway regular Kyle Demo picked up the win, with Zack Babcock following in second. Dylan Evans rounded out the podium, with Joe Isabell and Justin Williams rounding out the top 5.

Brandon Barron picked up his first career Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stock feature win, holding off current point leader John Pietrowicz. Ronald Hawker crossed in third, with Aiden Galvin and Adam Hunt wrapping up the top 5.

Camdin Cook picked up his first career E & V Energy Novice Sportsman win over second place Andrew Eaton. Brian Harber, Kingston Sprague, and Belle Hogan complete the top 5.
