Marcuccilli Masters Mother Nature For First Fulton Win Of The Season

By Hannah Doll
Fulton, NY (May 13, 2024) - Racing mother nature and each other, Fulton Speedway competitors completed an entire show on Saturday with Dave Marcuccilli the big winner. It was Marcuccilli's first Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified 35-lap feature victory of the season on Ehrlich Pest Control night. Cody Manitta dominated Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman action. Brennan Fitzgibbons triumphed over the Billy Whittaker Cars and Trux Hobby Stock feature, and in dominant fashion, Austin Harmer picked up the win for the E & V Energy Novice Sportsman.

With handicap rules in play, Marcuccilli started in the 14th position, with Bob Henry Jr. and Sean Beardsley leading the field to green. Out front, Bob Henry Jr. would take the early charge, closely battling Willy Decker Jr., Chad Phelps, and Beardsley for the lead.

Picking his way through the field, Marcuccilli would gain 13 positions, inching his way closer to race leader Henry Jr. With laps winding down and Henry Jr. out to a solid lead, a mid-race caution with two top 5 cars would bring the field together one last time.

As the green flag dropped, Marcuccilli continued his run patiently, inching toward the race leader. With laps winding down, Marcuccilli would make the pass for the lead and drive away with a 1.3-second gap as the checkered flag fell on lap 35. 16th starter Billy Dunn would settle for second, with Bob Henry Jr. rounding out the podium positions. Max Hill would drive his way into 4th place, with Willy Decker Jr rounding out the top-5.

Cato's Cody Manitta grabbed the early race lead on lap 7, pulling away to a 2-second lead to pick up the Dot Foods Sportsman 25-lap feature event. Fulton Local Hunter Hollenbeck respectfully crossed the line in second, with Wade Chrisman close behind in third. Josh Fellows picked up the fourth place position, with Zachary Buff coming from eighth to round out the top 5.

Brennan Fitzgibbons broke John Pietrowicz's season stranglehold, leading every lap of the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby stock feature event. Pietrowicz started deep in the field, driving to a solid second-place position. Adam Hunt, Ronald Hawker, and Shawn Doucette ranked in the top five.

Austin Harmer took home the win in the 15-lap E & V Energy Novice Sportsman feature. Harmer would jump out to the lead early on, lap traffic and caution being his only challenges. Kingston Sprague would come in second, with Brian Harber, Rick Kinney, and Andrew Eaton rounding out the top 5.

Fulton Pit Notes:

37 Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds lined the pit area for the second week. Despite the weather, track crews were able to get all racing in with a record time of 1 hour and 50 minutes. Andrew Buff, Jordan Bennett, Willy Decker Jr, and David Marcuccilli took home heat wins, and Larry Wight took home the consolation win. After a heat race incident defending Tracey Road, DIRTcar Modified track champion Tim Sears Jr. was forced to use a track provisional to qualify for Saturday's main event. Dylan Zacharias took the last provisional by being the highest non-qualifier in 2024 points.

Cody Manitta, Wade Chrisman, and Zachary Buff picked up heat wins in the Dot Foods Sportsman category, with Teddy Clayton Jr picking up the consolation win.
